Omaha more profitable than Holdem?

Here are my thoughts:

The poker boom brought lots of players to online poker and especially Texas Holdem. So I'm thinking that the playing field should have evened out by now as "the boom fish" has either left or they've had time to improve. Isn't it reasonable to think that there are more fish in Omaha and that that is the game you should try to master..?
I've only been playing for 5 months so I really wouldn't know, I'm just speculating. I'm trying to build my bankroll from freerolls and micro stakes which is taking forever but I'm determined to make it work.

If you are better at Omaha then you will be more profitable at Omaha.
If you are better at Hold'em then you will be more profitable at Hold'em.

Ok well lets assume I could get equally good at both. Then what would be more profitable?

I agree there are more fish in Omaha micro these days than HE, your reasoning is correct and not new... but the pool is still smaller. I prefer Omaha it is a more advanced thinking game (and is funner)... if you are good at it you should prevail partly because the noobs have a stiff learning curve... :icon_fara

I love omaha but there aren't so many games to play and the prize pools are smaller. I'm a tournament player and the guarantees are pretty small unless you can play high stakes. I've tried the cash games but alot of the players there seem to know what they're doing so it makes it hard to win a decent amount of money.

I have to imagine that the average person at a hold em table is 10 times as good at hold em as the average person at the omaha table is at omaha. Hold em is so close to being solved everyone knows at least the basics (almost). If you could play omaha anywhere near the level you play hold em I'm sure you would crush the games.

The pool of players is so much smaller, so you would have to raise your skill level higher to make the smae amount of profit you do in hold'em from being an average player.

IMO, it's not nearly as simple as looking at theoretical profitability for some hypothetical tabula rasa player. For one thing, they are not equally suited to every person / personality.

Well I think a few years back the omaha games were softer online then vs now IMO. As far as more profitable, not so sure on that as there are fewer tourneys and tables of cash players. But, I do see several hi/lo wanna be players at cash table make unreal calls and plays. I play em all, holdem, omaha, hi/lo, horse and stud. Best to try to get better at all of them and tag the fish so you can grab some cash from them at cash tables.

There are a few fish in omaha.. but generally people that don't know how to play it well won't play it for real money. I see a lot of decent players when I play cash omaha online. I prefer to play omaha vs holdem cash i know i'm a better omaha player

Omaha is much more fun than holdem. It can be more profitable, but the swings are greater in Omaha. Definitely a fun game tho.
