Interesting scenario just happened at the SnG table I was at...
The board read AQJT, 2 hearts 2 spades. 2 Players were in the pot (I was not). The river came as the king of diamonds. There was a broadway straight on the board, and no possible flush draw. The nuts is on the board! One of the players pushed all in and the other player folded! It was unbelievable.
It is definitely key to recognize these boards. Another board is quads with an ace (55A55). Just something to recognize. I guess it is one of those things where you probably won't gain a lot of chips by recognizing the nuts is on the board, but you won't lose by folding with the nuts on the board.

Some people may be under the assumption that kicker in their hand plays or something silly like that.

I play on play money so players are likely worse than real money players, but the likely explanation is what professormike says, some players forget that only the best 5 cards matter, e.g. I've seen some players do horrible calls when they paired the other card on their hand but there was already a higher pair on the board.

there are also some idiots who shove with the nuts on the board 100BB into a 5BB pot and there are even bigger idiots who will call and loose more because of the rake but hey its about ego :)

Had this happen in a 3 dollar MTT on intertops last week. There was broadway rainbow on the board one guy bet the pot on the river and the other guy folded. The entire table immediatly started typing "LOLOLOL" "NH" "Good fold!" into the chat box hahaha, it was hilarious.

The player who folded must have not been paying too close of attention since he folded. It's interesting when nut boards come in a cash game...usually it would be good to check it down on the river, because assuming your opponent knows it's the nut board, by checking it down you would avoid paying more rake.

Im really sorry to be anal, but lose is the most commonly mispelt word in the English Language, it's highly frustrating to repeatedly keep seeing it.

Loose is the opposite of tight.

Lose is the opposite of win..

I have no idea why it seems 80% of the world cant spell a 4 letter word...

Sorry if my being picky has pissed anyone off, but I have promised myself to try and correct this particular word wherever i see it.

I had a similar situation recently,
my opponent thought the nuts was on the board because the board showed quads.
I shoved and won because the Ace kicker in my hand still plays with the quads on the board.
So just take the time in these situations to confirm to yourself that the board really is the nuts.

Haha I've never thought about it like that. im mostly a tournament player so don't really worry about that. I always say (as long as you're 100% sure the nuts is on the board) you might as well shove it and hope for a fold in a tournament.

Haha but if you're in a ring game all you're gonna do is lose rake! Wow, very interesting lol...

I'd always bet when the board is the nuts and make it a normal bet, not an overbet. There is always non-zero % chance someone will fold. I saw a hand once in a SNG where the board was a royal flush.

By the same token, if you happen to have the nuts on a board that is close to the nuts (let's say you have Ax on AKKAA) then you should overbet.
