I read a very interesting article the other day where players were arguing about whether the "November 9" was a good idea or not.

Personally, I don't like it. I know what they are trying to do: advertise it - make money, give players chance to bring their family & friends, hype it up as to bring new players to the game and put poker in the mainstream highlight of sports by having it on the biggest sports network on television.

But I don't think it is very good for some of the players that make the final table. Take JC Tran for example, he had chip lead and a ton of momentum going into the final table back in July and then when he got to the November 9 he was pretty much card dead and lost half his stack making opens with hands like Q4 off.

My suggestion would be to have the players that make the final table, vote on it. As I know there are varying views on this topic, it would be better of to let the players decide for themselves. Majority wins voting obviously. Of course if they voted to play it out, they could make a 'day 9' of the main event where it is just the final table the next day. Still gives players a little rest as I know it can take several hours to actually get to the final table.

What do you guys think? Does the "November 9" need to go?

There are pros and cons but overall I think the pros win. Having it broadcast live on ESPN is huge for poker.

It couldn't be voted on by those on the final table - the decision would need to be made months in advance for planning purposes.

The only way sport gets massive in the States is with a big extravaganza. It probably hurts the players a little bit but i would think that the amount of new players/money it brings the game in eyes on screen far outweigh any negatives on the players. It is even as its the same for all the players. It probably helps the less experienced more as they have time to get coaching. The security must be a nightmare as people know who will win millions 2 months in advance so can try to run plays on them.

In the run up to the wsop Main Event final table, does ESPN etc do a big build up in American TV? If not, it seems pointless to have a November Nine when they could delay the final table for one day, bring the cameras in and get the tournament completed.

I personally think there is a difference when it is played, in JC defence maybe they should do a 48 hour turn over seeing how they could have the final stage set up already, knowing there is going to be a final 9 table. As far as advertisement goes I watch ESPN all day long and maybe seen one advertisement for the WSOP, so it's not like they went out of their way to advertise for it. I seen more advertisement for the WSOP game they have out now then I did for the WSOP it self.
