But I'm getting a heck of a lot better, I have always thought of myself of being incredibly green despite having some knowlege of the game, but I've been reading a lot more, and at bodog out of 4thousand something people, I finished in the top 300 got a couple of bad beats and wrong reads. I think I could have made the money but I stopped playing smart and opened up too much.
Here are the things I have been using to help me, and it has helped me out a lot.
I made this so I can remind myself what exactly I am trying to accomplish
1. Play your own game, don’t get suckered in to playing on someone else terms. Don’t over stretch yourself, and try to pull them into your corner. If they want to see your cards make em earn it.
2. Don’t be afraid to throw it away, if there is a overhand that can beat you and your oponent is betting hard, it is better to assume that they have it and be wrong, then assume that they don’t and be wrong.
3. Don’t get rattled, remember words are only words, they can’t hurt you. Don’t let another person dictate your style of play (see 1)
4.Play tight and selective
5.Analyze everything before you do it, every poker player knows the “what” you are going to do. But you need to justify it with a why and a how. Why are you doing that, to steal the blinds, to gain more chips, what are you going to do and how are you going to get your other opponents to do what you want them to.
Just because doesn’t work. If you know your beat, don’t pay to see cards. Either way you are going to lose
When players don’t respond to aggression, wait for top tier hands, and start hammering them hard, they will almost always call because they think they are going to be the next Phil hellmuth and call what they perceive to be a bluff
That last one was an observation that so far has been successful
