Tonight I attended a lecture at my school...The University of Illinois...given by the one and only Barry Greenstein himself.

Barry attended U of I at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

He talked about a variety of things and described his experiences and his road in life.

Anyways, just thought it would be interesting to mention this, its not everyday where you get to listen to an established poker pro speak...

Yep one of the rare human beings who is an even better man than he is at what he does in life! So why no words of wisdom?

Nice... Greenstein's definitely the hero of poker - there are other legends, but he's the one that donates winnings to charity. Did you manage to get any good quotes or anecdotes out of the lecture. If not, what was the synoposis of the lecture?

He spoke about several things. He mentioned that anyone who is thinking about quitting school and playing poker, should really stay in school. Education is more important than a game. Poker is always going to be there, etc.

Also, he spoke about his mathematician background and his mindset. He says he loses almost 50% of the time that he plays poker, but he still wakes up everyday and goes back to work. You have to be psychologically stable to be succesful at poker. If you get all upset about bad beats and swear and curse, you will not be able to take your game to the highest level.

Poker is almost all psychological. Math is important, but poker is a mind game...

When he was telling a story, some guy with long hair got up and left. Greenstein said, "she must have already heard this one..." Everyone started to laugh, and Barry had no idea that he called some guy a girl.

Anyways, overall it was cool to see a professional.

And no, I was not one of the super-geeks who asked for his autograph or took pictures of him...Seeing him was good enough for me.
