I just had a look at the Pro's and watched Mike Matussow playing with a German player...!
Mike had $6,800 and this german player $2,000, so I thought that this would be a game the German player would loose in the long run.
They played at a $100/200 table...

So they started to play the first hand, and the German won $800...

He immediately left the table and was never seen...

I think he's now going out and tells everyone he knows,
how he had beaten Mike Matussow at the table...

Damn, that was very unfair...!

Things like this happen to a lot of the top pros. Patrik Antonius is a popular target for this, he was just talking about it the other day on a podcast I was listening to.

Don't get too worried about it, everyone beats Mike online. -$800 is a win for Mike online.

I wonder how many times it took that player to get that one win and the brag.

It's not unfair, but it is lame. But I do understand the impulse.

The guy probably sat down seeing MM sitting alone, but he sat down with too much of his roll and he's scared as shit. He wins that first hand and thinks "I can't do it. I can't play at this level. I'm risking too much-- this is stoopid. I'm too scared playing this guy. Gotta go."

IMO, it's just the opposite of bragging. It's an admission that he's over his head.

I don't see how this is unfair to anyone.

It's not like $800 is a large amount to him.

I don't really see this as being unfair, but the other player does seem to come across as a bit of a douche.

I was catching up on old PokerCast episodes that I missed, and I delete them as I listen to them, but look through the episode list in their archive somewhere around episode #42 or so.

Actually in the same P.A. interview they discussed this same thing. P.A. said sometimes an unknown will sit down, play a few hands and win a few bucks, then P.A. will take a bathroom break or something that causes him to sit-out a hand. When he comes back the guy is gone. They were suggesting the pause in the action caused the guy to realize "wtf am I doing? I need to get out of here while I'm up!"

Mike probably lost the first hand and said "&#@#@! MA FIND OUT WHERE THIS GUY LIVES... *dials number* HEY KID, I WANT MY FKING 800 BACK YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW BAD I RUN IN POKER I WANTED INSURANCE BUT U CALLED TOO FAST..."

Just kidding lol, I love Mike. Hit n Run artists are annoying, but you can't really blame them, I wouldn't wanna sit at a table with Mike Matasow and my life savings either.

Then again I would never do it at all in the first place.

I agree with you. I've never been in a live game or casino. I'm a Full Tilt Player 95% of the time. I basically compare your article with ring games as they basically do the same thing. They come in and try to outbet you until you tilt and then you get mad and go all in and the beat you and then leave the game and find another table with possible candidates that they can do the same thing to. It's obvious what they are doing like the guy with the $800. I've learned to pay attention to new players when they jump into the game and immediately bet, bet , bet. I have on many occasions simply folded up front when they start that and hopefully others follow me and fold. After a couple of rounds of the table, some of them get the message and move to another table. And hey, they vote, too.

These are online poker laws! You can play one hand and disappear. If it was a live game be sure he would be ashamed to leave the table after one hand.

You'd think they would have something better to do, like working on actually improving their game, rather than looking for cheap digs.

Couple questions - are you sure it wasn't $10/20 table? (because stack sizes here seem really odd to me... I mean Mike's only got 34bb's and other guy has just '10bb' < what table is that gonna happen on?).

Wouldn't it more likely be > they'd been playing for a bit, Mike appears to be up a couple buyins, they guy adds back to 100bb's (or maybe was just stacked off & now grabs 100bb), wins a hand & calls it a day (or maybe he needed to leave?... who knows?).

it seems very tempting to do this, on a much lower note, I feel like doing this everytime I get ahead in ring gams but figure Im here to grind and learn but let me ask yall this

Back to poker room etiquette, Whenyou take down a big pot real quick like within 15 minutes of sitting down. On 2 different occasions I got up over $80 in 15 minutes and just wanted to get up and leave. But there are many regulars where I play live and figured this would be frowned upon so I would stay and usually lightning would keep striking and I would end up losing a nice part of this stack. Any opinions, I know there is no rule and I can get up anytime but I dont want to be known as a hit and run player either
