What do you think about playing without HUD, how big of a difference (BIG) is it? I want to start playing microstakes after studying poker and playing shitty fun steps for a while, but I don't have the money to invest into HUD right now, cause I'm a puny student, of course with a dream to be able to survive off poker during my studies. Is it worth depositing and starting to play micro stakes (lowest possible) without HUD or will I just be pissing money away?
Altough it's probably impossible to earn enough money playing NL2 to actually afford PT or HM.
A demo is an option but that's just for a month for each of the software programs.
Also I might try to get HM "for free" in everest poker or Titan Poker by earning points, which probably if impossible due to huge ammount of points that I actually need.
Oppinions? Is it ok playing without HUD or has anyone ever earned 500 titan points within a month's time playing micro stakes?

P.S. Titan poker, Everest, WPT Poker and betfair are the only options for "get it free" since I have already registered with pokerstars and party poker.
P.P.S I've also played live poker cash game (0.25GBP/0.25GBP) and a re-buy added money tournament for a few times at the local casino. That's my background then.

God, I hate having no money :).

The ever popular "it depends", I suppose. If you're just playing a couple of tables, and you pay attention, you could probably be OK, but if you want to do any kind of volume multi-tabling you pretty-much need one. I'd try the trials one after the other, that gives you 2-3 months of playing and, tbh, you should be able to earn enough in that time to pay for one of them.

If that really isn't an option for you at all, I suppose you could multi-table and just really nit it up. That may be enough to win at the micros without a HUD, but it's definately going to be easier with a HUD than without.

I don't use a hud and I am up a few hundred dollars in micro stakes (up to $5 sng).
However, if you are a serious poker player (I'm not, its fun for me) and want to compete at the higher levels,
if you don't use a hud you are at a disadvantage, specially for multi-tabling cash games.
So I would say, single table, micro sng, hud not needed.
Multi-table cash games, higher stakes, hud needed.
Hope this helps.
Btw, if you play on Carbon (merge network) there is a free hud (CPOC), perhaps you could
try that out as a starter?
Good luck.

You don't "need" one..certainly not for micros anyway. The players are bad enough that you don't need to see their 3bet percentage etc.

It's easy enough to earn enough to pay for it even at 2nl..grinding for less than a month you can earn a few hundred dollars and pay for it that way.

If you really are skint, then I guess it could be used as a motivational aspect of grinding 2nl/5nl.

It helps having a hud, but certainly isn't a needed at the micros.

If you're gunna learn you might as well learn to use the HUD @ 2nl where it's going to be rly easy to pick apart your opponents. Micro stakes HEM is what like $50 and full version is like $80 from memory? That's EZ to make at 2NL

Since I am playing a lot of stud games lately, along with HORSE games, where there is no viable HUD, and I am doing pretty good, I have no issues with playing without a HUD.

Then my HDD died, and even when I get it back up, and restored, the dbase will not be recent. HUD stats from 2 years ago will be basically useless.

My position on HUDs are that they are good for seeing how your villains are playing today, or this week, but beyond that they are showing a conglomeration of moods.

And anything over 1000 hands, which BTW most will tell you is necessary, discounts that a player is evolving.

The trackers can be good for self analysis, but beyond that, they offer dubious info.

Tourney play's opinion.;)

i just recently started playing at bovada and can't use a HUD there. has been a bit of an adjustment but you can only play 4 tables, so it isn't that bad. But i definitely prefer to use one if possible.

Thanks! No need for a HUD then. I'll just get on grinding.

500pts. on Titan
$10 mtt or sng = 17pts. (3/day, x10 days > 510)

I have no idea how long it would take playing 1c/2c cash tables.

I play 85% live poker and that hud dont mean anything. Online Ive used huds a few times just to to find out the (PUT A WORD HERE THATS AWFUL) that want to be over agressive on certain folks, the hud willl let you know who will attack you and just keep your aggression low for a while and then let loose on the attackers that widen their range knowing youll fold, SUDDENLY THEY DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO (make sure you do it with the worse hand possible just to send a message), dont let programs play your game, and thatHUD has never helped me live

buying a program like Pokertracker or HEM isn't just for the HUD. It helps you find your own leaks, analyze your hands, track progress and much more. On a scale of 1-10 on how big of a difference a HUD makes, I'd say about an 8

HUD is a good investment... since you are only microstakes, buy HEM 2 Micro which is only $49 and supports up to 10/25... you can always upgrade to the full bersion of HEM 2 at a later date ($89). I would strongly advise getting one as you can see who is who... how to play them so on and so forth... it's worth the small investment.

Edit: I don't even get to use ny HUD anymore since I play on Bovada :(

Not wanting to sound too stupid but when you purchase a HUD is it bought outright or is it a monthly fee. Thanks

You purchase HM2 or PT3 for a one-off fee, I think its round about $80.

I play micro PLO and use HM1 and find it good to keep track of the amount of hands I play and how much I am winning or losing but as for analysing my own play I guess I am to stupid to do that, and I am probably not a good enough player to remember the4 leaks I am trying to plug.
Seriously though at micro stakes it is useful but not essential but if you move up to mid/high stakes everyone will be using them, but by that time hopefully you will be making enough to pay for a HUD.

No monthly fees. The hud is just part of either tracker, so you get a lot more than just that HUD.
