How does someone like me combat this preconception I consider nl Texas holdem too be every bit of a thinking person game as seven card stud. I felt very insulted by there preconceptions off nl Texas holdem how can i explain too people that down grade Texas holdem that it is a thinking persons game.

I would encourage them to play heads up to prove their point.

A "thinking" person would not make a broad assumption like that based on such limited information.
I say limited, because if this person is saying this, than they don't have nearly enough facts to support their statement, and it now is nothing more than an uninformed opinion and falls into the --- opinions are like assholes, everyone has one... category.

Stud and Hold'em are simply two different animals. But, they're both "poker" in the true sense of the word. They both give incomplete information. You play the man in both of them. They both have odds, etc. etc.

Sounds to me like this person simply doesn't like to gamble and put all his chips at risk on one hand. IF that's the case he should stick to what he's comfortable with. (some do play NLStud7 though) But, there's no reason to slander another form of poker. I can't stand PLO8....but, others do and I'm not going to stop them from playing it. If we're playing it in a home game...I simply fold till we get to the next game (usually play a form of horse). I just don't understand it enough.

Have to quote this from Rounders:

“There's no other game in which fortunes can change so much from hand to hand.
A brilliant player can get a strong hand cracked, go on tilt... and lose his mind along with every single chip in front of him.
This is why the world series of poker is decided over a No-Limit Hold 'Em table.
Some people, pros even, won't play No-Limit.
They can't handle the swings.
But there are others, like Doyle Brunson, who consider No-Limit the only pure game left.”

Great quote IMO.

Tell them to pick their stakes heads up, then after a few hours when you've busted them countless times ask them what they think.

How anyone answers is completely subjective, so while I think NLH is poker, I don't care if anyone disagrees.

NL texas holdem is the grand daddy of poker.
Why is it being used in the prestigious main event wsop held every year and not other variants?
Why other variants use only at side events leading to the main event?
Just think of it.

It is difficult to explain to people who don't know much about poker - and people who say that really don't.

I like the quote above from "Rounders" - try using that.

In low limit games the rake will kill you, watch how often the dealers get a refill and know that is the money being taken off the table. The higher limit games with a time rake and NLH is the best way to minimize your losses to the rake. As a dealer I noticed that you actually lose more money at low limit than if you play NLH, because in low limit games there are always calling stations and players with no card sense at all.

Doyle Brusnson and Amarillo Slim consider No-Limit the the only pure game left. I agree. No-limit really is about playing the man not the cards. Of course the cards matter but don't necessarily decide who wins.

I pretty much strickly play No-limit Hold'em but i can play PLO, 2-7 no-limit triple draw(a very fun game) stud, chicago, draw.

The other games most of them anyway have a limit, which makes them more of a mathematical game.

David SKalansky is a mathematical genius when it comes to poker, and a lot of his books will teach you how to consistently win at limit hold-em and other games, just but using odds and math.

No-limit in my opinion is the best game and truest form of poker.

As quoted in the great movie rounders it is the cadillac of poker, some would say the only game worth playing.
I myselfstarted playing poker when the only game you could get in the casino was seven card.
But personally omaha cash games are my favorite.
And NLHE for tournaments.

Bottom line is that there is more traffic so therefore more money which is what matters really.

That sort of asks the question of how you define what "Real Poker" is. I play most of the games but struggle with NL Hold'em cash (not tourney or sng) and PLO. There's different strategies for all the games. For example, stud, razz etc... require you to remember the open cards of other players to discount your outs. I will eventually get my head around NLH cash and PLO but the thing I truly love about poker is that there are so many variants. So why should you care when someone says "Stud is better" or "NLH is just shove at will". Enjoy the fact that we have a game that has so many variants that we can change game for a while to refresh ourselves when things aren't going so good.
