I think holdem will always be the game of choice. But I also think with more players expanding and wanting to improve their skills that H.O.R.S.E. is going to start growing more and more.

I really think mixed games are coming into their own out west in live arenas.

If you go to the V or Bellagio or Commerce or Aria often times there are multiple mixed games going at peak hours....

Anywhere from 8-16 to 300/600 or above.

You CAN make a living playing mixed/stud variants/O8/Draw variants live....you have to put in the time to be good though, and that is hard with BF keeping US players from the one site where these games run regularly without fail, PStars.

I would say NLH is always going to be the number one game but I also think mixed games will become more popular online.

I only started playing poker around 2-3 months ago and prior to that I'd never seen anything other than Texas Hold'em and only ever heard of other forms of poker. If you'd have mentioned Omaha, Stud, Badugi, etc... to me then I wouldn't have had the slightest clue what you were on about. I think it's likely the same for most/all other non-poker players. They're not going to come into poker by anything other than Hold'em.

I have this month's poker schedule for the Grosvenor here in front of me - cash games are Hold'em every night and every night it's Hold'em tournaments (aside from one night where it's Kalooki, which I think may just be running due to the ethnic groups in this area, though maybe not?).

Ultimately, my opinion is - nobody other than poker players know any games exist other than Hold'em, as such, nobody other than poker players are going to play such games.

(As always - Excuse my drunkenness, please correct anything I've said that is wrong)

I think holdem so popular becouse player depends on more skill than lucky as in other games. Dro Poker for me is just a kind of lottery for example :)

I am pretty sure everyone in the US over the age of 40 know that Stud exists, and many people understand what "draw" poker is.

I am also pretty sure most Europeans who know what holdem is, know what Omaha is as it was the most widely spread game on the continent before say 2005ish.

Uh, no....

The consensus among pros/skilled amateurs is a skill edge is greatest in most Hi Lo games...

I would agree Holdem is what MOST newbies regard as "poker" these days....that is fine, but people get burned out on NLH. I know I did. Playing a live cash game of NLH against regs/people who have a clue can be the most boring, excruciating experience in one's life.

Its like waiting for a cooler..

No limit Hold'em is here to stay, it's like the game was invented for TV, from rags to riches, and from riches two rags! Makes for great TV. It's also very easy for the general public to understand the basics to what's going on. Five community cards plus two cards in your hand, not rocket science!

Black Jack, Holdem and Tetris will always be around.

Angry Birds will be replaced by something equally trivial though.

Eventually there will be other games in favor. I doubt any will knock NLHE off the top of the mountain in our lifetime though. Who knows what card games your grandchildren's grandchildren will be playing.

I think you missed my point because I completely agree with you. But, these people are already playing poker, these aren't the people that are going to create "The next big thing"...

I would agree Holdem is what MOST newbies regard as "poker" these days....

...these are, and as long as Hold'em is what they consider to be poker, it is here to stay.
