Yeah same thing happened here in Sydney. The casino installed 4 tables and had them for a year. They were always empty except for friday and saturday nights when the wait lists for live tables were enormous.
I think the reason they were so unpopular here is that the casino raked almost as much as the live tables of the same limit. As you were playing 2 or 3 times as many hands per hour it felt like you were being raked so much more also. If I remember correctly the rake was 10% of the pot, capped at $6.
I had wanted to try them the last time I was down there, because I heard they offered $.50/$1 PLO and PLO8 on them, but honestly, no one goes to Trump Plaza for poker and I just never made it there.
A better test on whether these would truly be viable is to put a few in Borgata or the Taj and see what happens.
