First post here (new member).

I fell in love with poker some time around 2006 i think. I really killed it back then in my home games - i was a faster learner than the friends & newbies i played with... all it really took was the ability to trap, play in position & lay down pairs. I felt poker came natural to me though, i was always a good reader of people.

Over the last 5 years though... ive barely played much at all.... i guess my interest died a little when the boom died off... but i still got the itch now and again.

Recently though... I've fell back in love with poker in a big way - a couple of recent home games made me realise how much i love a few beers & game of cards.

Using audiobooks and playing micros on stars I've tried to rip up my game and start over - being tight-aggressive just didn't appeal to me anymore, and my favourite players like Dwan & Blom seem to achieve great results with more erratic ranges & relentless pressure.

So my more recent results;

In 2 recent trips to the casino I've made 2 final tables in 30-40ish player weekly tournies (7th both times just missing the money). At this level the competition i feel is really weak & once again simply playing in position with a tight starting range & c-betting gives me a huge edge over many of the donks in the casino.

Online is a different story though. I have been attempting to play a much more hyper-aggressive style at the micro cash games (1c/2c with $2 buyins) - but encountered mixed results.

The variance with such a style is high ofcourse, but many tables are soulless... occupied by multitabling grinders that wont get involved without premium hands (usually good for a coin toss though if you want to jam JJ preF and get called by AK).

After around 1500 hands in my return to pokerstars I'm down around 600 big blinds / 6 buyins at the very lowest limit, 01/02c 6-max nl.

Needlessy to say that it has dented my confidence a little that I'm not beating the lowest game - but i still believe i have a natural talent for poker so hope to see improved results with more effort.... hence signing up here at cardschat!

So a few questions for my first post...

1. Which software will help me improve & why? I have heard of Flopzilla and Pokertracker but i haven't tried either. What areas of your game does such software help improve?

2. Should i be concerned about losing at the lowest level on stars even at a small sample size of 1500 hands? I know some online players who all say the micros are easy to beat but i have never found them easy to consistently win at - are they telling lies, or do you think i have some really serious flaws making me a losing player in the smallest games?

Thanks, I'm looking forward to chatting cards with everyone :D

Welcome! I'm still new myself, so far really enjoy the feed back, and conversations that can be made.

as for your 2 questions, I would say Pokertacker is an amazing tool if you know how to use it. It took me almost 3 years to get to the point I could use it effectively in most situations. Now a days People have been using Holdem manager. Personally it took me too long to learn PT for me to switch. as for sample size, I believe it comes down to the stakes you play...

At lower stakes it doesn't take much at all to truly understand how the players play. When you get into the .25/.50+ range you really need to start to play a standard game your comfortable with till you get AT LEAST 500 hands, and that in its self is a low number for some of the higher limits. before you can actually start to use the information given.

1- Flopzilla is good to improve their game flop wells and pokertracker is a poker tracker ( detected redundancy, lol). 2-Do not worry too much about GTO now, focus on improving your knowledge base and from there you should go looking for more advanced strategies. And yes, microstakes are extremely easy, we are that we are also fishs (harsh reality)
Gl gl!
