Today, the Safe and Secure Internet gambling Initiative launched a new online ad campaign to encourage support for passage of legislation introduced by Chairman Barney Frank, the Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection and Enforcement Act of 2009.

The ads, which stress the failure of prohibition and benefits of regulation, will appear on prominent web sites like the Washington Post, Politico and the Huffington Post.

Thanks,

Jeff Sandman

That's great. But I'm wondering what kind of impact they are looking for by putting the ads on those websites you mentioned? I'm a regular guy, and I know a lot of regular people (aka voters) and they don't read those websites. Why don't they put them on MySpace, Twitter, Facebook, Pogo? Sites that actually get some traffic from "regular" voters and not just the rich and important. This would seem like a more plausible way to get to the mass of the voter base.

Still a good idea, I just think the money would've been better spent somewhere else.

We chose those web sites because they are frequently visited by legislators who will ultimately decide whether to legalize and regulate online gambling. If you're interested in promoting our cause on your facebook or myspace, check out the widgets we have available. Thanks! https://ssl.capwiz.com/safeandsecure/remotecontent/

Every little bit is going to help, especially with states such as Pennsylvania having recent court rulings where poker was deemed a game of chance (despite the longstanding federal ruling). I just wish Barney Frank wasn't the focal congressman involved because of his past sexual transgressions. Is it possible that with him involved poker may be seen more as a vice? Isn't Alphonse D'Amato with the PPA bad enough?

Thank you for posting this. It's always good to know who is working on this and how. When I finally get my website up and running I will add a link to this info.

I understand why you put it on those sites. I'm just saying that I hope that my congressman doesn't vote on a bill just because he seen an ad on a website. What I would rather see is a big voter turnout that asks that congressman to vote in the way they choose to see it go. Therefore, it would make more sense to me to post it on sites where you would get the most "bang for your buck" in terms of voters, not congressmen.

I'm just throwing my two cents in, and that's about all it's worth.:D
