I'm laughing out loud as I write this.

At times, I will cover the community cards on the screen. Sometimes
I will cup my hands around my hole cards and hope it lights up, thinking it will add a bit of luck to my win.

Haha.

So, can anyone else relate to this? Tell me your behaviours, thoughts when shoving preflop.

Obviously, this is ridiculous. Just wanted to hear about others superstitious behaviour. Maybe I'm the only one. Lol

All these "nervous habits" eventually can turn into "tells" so it is important that you learn to control them especially if you are playing with the same players often or are in a MTT where you can sit for a long time with the same people. Try to vary what you do in certain circumstances. Good players can pick up on habits.

think OP is referring to online poker so no visual tells there.
As for me because i'm always getting bad beat with the superior preflop hand , sometimes in a showdown i just cover my eyes because if i dont i am going to be screaming (mentally) for my card to come.............

Hahaha I have covered the community cards in the past as well, I would say my worst habit would be expecting them to always hit their outs, I am surprised when my hands hold now

Well, I don't tend to shove all in pre-flop unless I'm low stacked. Usually when I'm usually in the average area, I tend to raise and let someone else 3-bet me. If my hand is good that's where I'll shove but other than that I usually get a call and play it out.

I will do this with the other lobby. I will cover the whole cards and follow the spotlight on the table. If he checks, I get excited to peel the flop and see if I hit big.

As far as shoving preflop? For nearly the last 3 years... I have lost EVERY major tournament holding or against AQ.

AQ < AK
AA <AQ
JJ < AQ
KK <AQ
AQ < 22 flop QQ10
1010 < AQ
AQ <AK
AK< AQ
QQ <AQ

Just from memory of the last major tourneys (30k for first or bigger)

I kid you not. 100% believe it is a sign of some sort? I hate to be crazy but it has happened this long and continues to happen! Drives me MADDDDDDDDDDD.

Many more times it has happened, and I swore I was done with this hand. Just fold it pre next time someone shoves, as I NEVER win.

Yet I continue to play it

Mine is not so much a only a preflop all in superstition but appies to all of the times where all players cards are face up and the board is still drawing when I am ahead. I try not to imagine my opponents outs because when I do it seems like it summons them onto the felt in some weird sick mental sleight of hand. I know its not the case but when I'm all in and ahead I just try to visualize my hand holding up. Sometimes I cover the cards as they're popping out too but that doesnt help me not visualize my opponents cards haha.

Hahaha nice thread! I used to search for outs that defeat my hand, actually most times it works and i lose a lot of this cases, when i don't care too much, then i almost always don't do anything superstitious and my hand hold up.

When i want to win an all in preflop i put a really cool song, i listen to it for a moment and if it tells me its time to go i do an all in. Extremely crazy! (Only in freerolls)

Haha, I love this question! I never really noticed before, but I guess that I look away from the screen (at the TV, the cats, anything) after I have shoved pre-, so that I don't see the cards coming down, especially the river.

Delaying or putting off the inevitable lol. Those habits are purely a psychological move to try to lessen the pain or anger of losing. In the same sense it also makes one feel extra good if you win.

Yes. This I can relate to and have done countless times. It's so hard not to think of the opponents outs as the remaining cards come.

Nice post.

Do you dance to it? Haha. Awesome.

When I was playing in one room which is not PS or FTP, there would be a hand-recogniser(i think thats how it is called) and I would cover everything and just look at the recogniser to see what hand i have made ( only when I'm all in of course) haha :)

I am not superstitious in anything in life but i have covered my the community cards with my hands a few times before. But the reason i did this was because i was making a mistake in my mind. For instance if i had a strong hand then i would start making pre determined post flop plays in my head. The trouble was overplaying my hand and not playing according to my opponents move.

Therefore i covered the flop before it came down so that i stopped thinking what i am going to do next and waiting for my turn to came. So here i could react to the action going on and i could play according to that and not get stuck with hands like top pair top kicker.

Same here ........Its like the law of attraction is working against me because i'm always counting my opponents out and so i inadvertently 'summons' them lol...crazy, i know.....glad i ain't the only nutjob out there :inks:

The main habit I have is trying to figure out how I am going to organize those chips once we have finished showdown.

You know because all I do is win :D

Oh, I guess my second habit is grabbing a tissue to sop up my tears when I do lose.

This exactly! I can't count the amount of times AQ has been the death of me, weather it be losing to it, or with it! It just beats the chyt out of me constantly... I too, tell myself, "just muck it, it NEVER wins for you!" My friend's actually refer to it as my favorite hand, cause they have heard my countless stories about it, lol.

I can relate 100% to this entire statement. And here I am thinking it is just me and my OCD ways.:D Certainly glad to know I'm not the only one that thinks like this.

I wouldnt say that i have any habits when shoving preflop. I just shove with jj or better in good position when a few high bets are out proving their mid pair or ak. Usually i get the mid pair to call me all in with the other change from limpers or callers to the raise before i shoved.

Uneasy with pockey Aceys

Sometimes if I have pocket AAs I will say to my self, "Please don't have pocket cards" right after I see a call. I have had a long string of losing with pocket AAs against a lower pocket pair especially 88s, with an 8 on the river or something. This mainly only happens online. Or if I have high pocket cards and get that call I'll say "please don't have pocket AAs" lol. I'm sure everyone can relate to being afraid of the sick random 1 outter bad beats while playing on the net!
