Hi. I am still relatively new to online poker, and wanted some help with the FPP system at pokerstars. Now, from the PokerStars website, it says "1. Earn FPPs for cash game play

One (1) Frequent Player Point (FPP) is awarded for playing a hand in which the rake reaches:
  • $0.50 for fixed limit poker games with stakes $0.50/$1.00 and lower
  • $0.75 for fixed limit poker games with stakes $1/$2
  • $1.00 for
    • pot limit poker games
    • no limit poker games
    • fixed limit poker games with stakes $2/$4 and higher"
Now, what is their definition of "playing a hand"? If you post the blind are you playing? If you fold at the start, are you playing? What I am wondering is, can you sit down at a VERY aggresive $0.50/$1.00 table, post your blinds, play very conservatively (only play AA and KK and AK suited), posting your blinds (big and small each) once every 10 hands (play at large tables so the pots will be bigger) and only play when you have the best starter? Can you get 1 FPP just for folding out and the other players betting the pot to 10$?

Yes, yes. There's two types of rake that sites use, "contributed rake" where you have to have put money in the pot for it to count, or "the other type of rake whose name i forget" which only needs you to be sat at the table to count. Stars uses the latter.

Yes, but I don't see why you'd want to do that.

Yes.

Yes.

I'll second that. aard, you should buy a book "Small Stakes Hold'em" By Ed Miller and read it until you understand it all. ;)

FPPs have a 'cash' value of approx 1.6cents each.
I wouldn't play too hard towards getting them.

You also get 5FPPs per $1 in MTT or SNG entry fees.

You can earn FPPs at faster rates if you play alot.
I earn them at 2x as fast since I am in gold.

Not sure what limits you play, but try 6-max Limit tables.
You can do it in a couple of days no problem.

Just play your regular game though.
The bonus NEVER expires.

okay

So, how often do they do these 20% bonus things? Would it be worth it to buyin for MORE than i'm willing to play with... and then if i lose my months bankroll... sit and wait til the month is over, and then play again?

As in, i am willing to put 50$ in a month.... should i buy in for 400$, and then play til I reach 350$... then next month, go until i reach 300$... etc... in the hopes of making 80$ profit off the bonus? AKA... how often do they hold these... could I just buy in for 50$ each month (hopefully not, since i want to win)...

Lastly... if i have a 10,000$ bankroll... and i'm playing anyways, should I deposit the maximum to get bonus... and then withdraw it? Does that work?

As in... pretend the bonus is 20% up to 100$. I deposit 500$. Then i withdraw it, and play with my 10,000$ bankroll.... after 500FPPs, would i have 100$ bonus?

Dont really understand what you are saying in above post, but basically

1) Deposit as much as you can to sit (up to $500 maximum). If you deposit $50 per month, your bonus will be 20% of $50 (i.e $10).

2) Dont play just to clear bonus. Consider it a bonus (!), but you'll pay loads more in blinds and rake than you'll ever make back in bonus.

Any in depth questions, email Pokerstars customer support.

* PokerStars offers bonuses regularly, but not very often. Maybe once every three months or so (I believe the last one was in November).

* You need to deposit the whole amount you want money for at once. You can't deposit it in increments of $50; you'd only get bonus for the first deposit. If you have the discipline (and the cash) to only play for as much as you've set up a goal to play for each month, then it might make sense to make a bigger deposit right off the bat, as you would get a bigger total bonus that way.

* If you don't play enough hands to get your bonus the first month, no problem - you can keep playing until it's cleared. It, as Fish pointed out, never expires (like, for instance, the FullTilt bonus does).

* It has a maximum deposit of $600, meaning that even if you had a $10k bankroll, you'd still only get bonus for the first $600. I also believe - although I haven't checked lately - that Stars only allows you to deposit $600 at a time.

* You can deposit, wait 48 hours (minimum) and then withdraw all of your money again. If you at some later point decide to redeposit, your bonus will still be active, and you can work on it then. You don't have to finish it all at once. If you need to play 5000 hands to clear it, you can deposit now, play 2000 hands, withdraw all your cash and return in 6 months, make a new deposit and play the remaining 3000 then. You'll still get the same bonus you were eligible for originally.

Hope that clears it up.

No. It only applies to the first deposit you make during the bonus period.
