Anyone got any thoughts on the stereotypes of different nationalities in the poker world?

Not so much on the nationality but for me I've noticed in general the older crowd tend to play tighter. Which is not a knock to their playing style as I believe it's profitable in the long run as "tight is right".

Even seen the term being used more and more (OMC - old man coffee).

Normally, big countries or populous countries where poker growing up is a new event, there are a lot of beginers, Russia, Ukraine, brazil (It s hard to me confess this) and many others, have good players, but the beginers are much more visibles

Ive definitely notice this with countries like Russia.. I'm almost convinced they have only been given an 'all-in' button or 'fold' lol

As for the comment about age, its pretty hard to tell somebodies age unless its live poker or they have uploaded a sweet old grandpa display picture - But I usually worry its a ploy to generate a tight image.

Those of Russian nationality are to me, the most difficult to play against.
They pay all-in.

But the English play limp, whatever ... They even limp the small blind, instead of just making a minireise and stealing. The laws of Britain forbid stealing under the fear of ropes. :D
Their statistics are usually 80/0 (VPIP / PFR)

Hungarians, Romanians, Italians and for some reason the Brazilians, play a raise with any cards. 70/55 for them a normal habitual stasis.

Russians rarely play push / fold. Rather, they prefer an ordinary raise of 3 BB / pot-bet. Similarly, most players from the former USSR and players from northern and central Europe will play.

Strange play the Chinese. They often have favorite cards to which they pray and for which they are ready to put the whole stack.

To my regret, most Americans have almost forgotten how to play poker - their style is lame. Only a few players of the old school still remember what a raise and three-bet is.

Here such observations ...

Of course, because the Brazilians - ready to put the entire stack in J9o and are surprised, having received a call from the ready pair 55, which is justified mathematically. ;)

Be afraid of old players from Russia! Once in the USSR there was a very strong mathematical preparation in ordinary schools (in many countries only students at colleges or universities study this level). Young people are now studying for another program, much weaker.

online poker is still dependent on the player's mathematical skills.

What site are you playing on and what steaks are you playing!? At the lower steaks Russians (i'm sorry to say) are nothing short of suicidal. The concept of a 3 BB raise, re-raise ect seems to be completely lost on all but a few of my Russian competitors.. Oh how I crave to be able to defend my hand without my only option being to call the 3rd consecutive shove from the same Russian players. I rarely see any of these guys who play this way even making it to the money in SNG's/MTT's let alone a final table!!! I not only see constant shoves with utter trash but I also see them shove with top hands like AA.. extracting ZERO value from a hand which could have be very profitable in later streets after all other competitors fold.

You sound like you know what you are talking about however... Perhaps you could get the word out in Russia of what I've explained above ;)

My observations are mainly based on pokerstars and 888 (except for the Italians, who have been playing in other poker rooms - PlanetWin365).

However, in TigerGamings Russians really play more aggressively (perhaps because the poker client does not give HUD and normal statistics on opponents).

Good summary of what my experience has been playing freerolls, so surprised to see it exists in all levels of the game, wow.

While I can't say there is nothing to "nationality" in the way someone plays poker, I will also say that determining the "type" of person they are is more accurate to tell you what they are capable of at a poker table.

I will express my opinion about the stereotypes of players in poker. Players from canada and Great Britain play in a narrow range of hands. Brazilians and Romanians play a wider range of hands.
I like playing with the Brazilians :). I'm happy to go with them in the all-in with a wider range of hands than usual (if on the player does not have notes).

The Russians, driven by oil barrels pay or give all-in forever.
There are others who play safer, more defensive ... but the vast majority do not feel sorry for the money.

Probably going to regret asking this but can you define better 'Aggrotards' for me :):)

It's a player that will 3,4, and 5 bet with any 2 cards and will call huge raises with raggy hands and will chase bad draws for bad pots odds

The South Americans - LAG, often bluffing. But it's a stereotype. I played with the brazilians, who played tight, even nit. The canadians, the germans, the british are playing solid tight poker. Ukrainian, russian short-tempered, easily get mad, go on tilt, play aggressive. Asians play in their own way.
