Hey guys!

I am 4 tabling 5 NL atm and my biggest flaw is probably boredom so I decided to start listening to music, it doesn't take that much concentration of the game so I think it's all right. but do you guys think there are certain types of music that actually make you not play at your 'A game'??

ps: what do you guys do to not be bored while folding q/4 all for like 25 hands

If you are getting bored then you are not learning how players play and probably shouldnt be playing at all if you want to win. watch your opponents and be interested in the moves they make and find their weaknesses. As for music I think death metal would be bad I remember reading a study about this. Just listen to music you like. Pros in the main event always play with their ipod in.

I find playing 'aggressive' music just turns you into an agrofish and possibly spewing off. I know it definitely happens to me. And if you're winning with that music playing, it just turns you into a steroid-ridden overconfident moron.

If you have to, i think instrumental 'study' or 'concentration' type music are the best. You know, kinda like that particular music in Phoenix wright when trying to figurre something out.

Multitabling is a good way to cure boredom. Try 4 tables if you're 6maxing or 6 if FRing.

Music N Poker

I know there have been times when I have played some of my favorite music in the back round and found myself singing to it. Didn't end up so good as I found out that I began to lose my concentration. But when I played all new music that I was unfamiliar with, I played much better. :D

I mainly listen to house music and just like CrushingSouls mentioned you need to be observing other players: the hands they play, their betting patterns, and weaknesses.

If anything the type of music can make you play badder. For example I like to listen song about making lots of money and being successful. So sometime I make bets because I want more, but have bad hands.

Regardless if you use music to maintain focus or something else its all about focus because losing it for 5 mins here and there is the difference between placing deep or even winning ,so good training is playing online tournaments that have tons of ppl because if you can maintain that focus for many hours there you will surely do it live, especially if there is distractions at home such as kids, phone ringing,tv ,music etc

A little something my daddy told me when I told him that playing his way was too boring. He said... "Son... if you're not bored, you're not playing right."

Took a long time to sink in, but now I believe it's the best advise I ever received.

I listen to all types of music with a focus primarily on metal, but while I'm playing poker, I don't listen to that...it tends to make me overly aggressive at times. If I'm listening to music and playing poker at the same time, which I am very often, I'm usually listening to something mellow. Grateful Dead. Phish. Dave Matthews Band. Jam band kind of stuff that helps the relaxation bit of it. Sometimes it makes me play a little too loose tho :p

I listen to Trance almost always when playing. It is uplifting and not too distracting because the vocals are minimal. Armin Van Buuren's weekly show "A State of Trance" is a good place to start if you know nothing about the genre.

I prefer to analyze the table listening to music because it does not make much difference in my game when I do not hear better game

I can't seem to listen to anything that has lyrics without getting severely distracted.

I always have a long playlist of music wheter playing live or playing online.
I will generally have one long playlist with several different music styles playing for hours.
Sometimes even live in early mtts that I know are gonna be a long day I will even sit on my tablet and watch youtube/cardschat/facebook etc.

I know how it sounds and at first, I didn't believe it either, but being that I like just about every type of Rock music out there from Jam band stuff like Phish to heavy metal like Behemoth, I figured I would try some slower stuff while playing poker. The result is that I feel that my play is much more on the aggressive side when listening to metal than it is when I listen to something softer like Phish or something.

Being from southern California, I have diverse musical tastes, which my playlist reflects. It's about thirty-five hours long and contains a very ecclectic mix. I'm a fan of "rap" music, but don't listen to too much of it, outside of some old school hip-hop, while I'm playing, definitely no "gangsta" rap or metal or anything that's going to get me too pumped up. It tends to change my mindset from "I think you may be bluffing, so I'm going to keep an eye on you" to "Screw you! You're full of shit! I call!".

When I'm really into it and on my game, I don't even hear the music. It's like I'm in a trance. I'll be sitting straight up in my chair leaning forward, fixed on the screen, mesmerized by the action and someone will walk in the room and go "Oh, I love this song." I'll be like "What song?" I'll actually have to actively listen to the music for a few seconds to know what song they are talking about, even though it's been playing for nearly three minutes. They could probably walk in and tell me the house was on fire and I would be like "Huh? What? Fire?", and hand them a cigarette lighter.

All music distracts me. I have to have total silence. I don't get bored while playing, at least not yet anyway.

I just put on some dark rock (e.g. HIM type stuff) or some softer post-grunge and let it ride in the background.

Its down to the person really as different players have different focus points.

Sometimes I need music if its a really boring grind. pretty limited players and the strategy im gonna be using is pretty basic such as soft mtt's and sit n go's

If its a big tournament I will usually close down all my windows and just focus on one table or two at the most,I dont think music makes a huge difference if you are focusing on one table.
but you can get lost in the lyrics and it can take your mind out of the zone

I usually listen to something more mellow or instrumental. I lean towards bands like Explosions in the Sky. Dynamic enough to keep me listening but not distracting at all.
