What's everyone's opinion on mucking cards? When to do it and when not to. Or do you believe it's wise to always muck?

Only give away information unforced when there's some margin in it for you.

I show the cards only when I have a strong project to also give a strong image at the table, otherwise I muck

i pretty much always muck and i think its wise to do so. however there are certain times where either i know the person i am playing against, or know they have a tendency to tilt where i can maybe show a bluff and get them questioning their decisions. Definitely think this is a like 1% thing. you dont want your opponents to have free information

I play on pokerstars and I noticed many times players show their hands on purpose but I still hadn't bothered to find out how to do it, thank you for reminding me.
I think it can be useful sometimes to make other players believe you have a certain playing style.

I always muck. And generally I don't understand those who show their hand after bluff or those who rise almost every hand but show it only if it is AA or KK. ;D

I rarely show my cards live or online but when I do it's to give the table an impression of how I'm playing.

I always like to hide my hand. This is a way of not giving weapons to the enemy anymore.

I show the players a map, but it's very rare when the players think for a long time and guess what card I have, then the players fold and I sometimes show that I did not bluff, but this happens very rarely, I think it's not necessary to do this is a game that does the risk

To muck or not to muck..........that is the question. Apart from the fact that I absolutely detest the word 'muck', the use of the term in poker is one that players really should understand. Setting the default muck box to muck isn't always the best part of your strategy....strategy? Yes, you should have a strategy and to muck or not should be part of that. As previously stated in this thread, mucking when not required to is part of telling the rest of the table what your approach to the game is. If you are UTG and say, raise x2.5 with AA and everyone else folds, maybe showing your cards isn't that much a bad idea. Cos next time you raise UTG with 27o..... will you win the blinds? Or next time you x4raise AA does that start them thinking you have some lesser cards than AA? The most often showing of cards that I see is the BB who shows when everyone else folds towards him, usually when they have a holding of something like 72o.

Best thing is to start thinking how showing gives you the opportunity to influence your opponents play.

Leave your opponents guessing.

I did show once when I flopped a straight flush on BB with 2c 4c, had no value on the hand and got some sympathy

If you look in the settings, you should find a toggle, Auto muck on/off

I'll bet you show a Royal Flush even if everyone folds....I know I will, if I ever get one. And I do show to hint to some Nits that I bluff. Nit tilt is profit.

unless you have a plan and a clear reason for showing your cards, NEVER ever show. You're just giving away too much information whether your cards are good or not.
