So MTTs are pretty tilting. Like it seems to that people just luckbox their way to tourny wins. Obv they take some skill but I'm just ranting right now.

I was in the $55 80k guaranteed on stars and was chiplead for literally 3.5 hours of the tournament. I got the lead before the first break, and didnt relinquish it until 30mins before I busted.

Key hands before I busted:

AK vs AJ all in pre= I lose.
KK vs A10 all in pre= I lose.
22 vs Q9. Flopped a set on a 27T board, got it in on the turn when a 6 hit, river is a 8 obv.

At this point I was down a fair amount, but managed to chip back up to over 100k with about 35 people left.

then I 4bet shove JJ get called by AK and obv lose.

Sigh..thought that was gonna be the one tourny i won :(

I don't know what the blinds where like, or stack sizes when you got it all in pre flop with AK and JJ. I would be more inclined not to do this at certain stages of a tournament

I think Harrington calls it " Fear of flopping*

You are never in great shape if all the chips go in pre flop with JJ. Depending on what stage of the tournament.

Still it is bad luck. I played the early double the other day on Full Tilt. Got all my chips in quite close to the end against the big Stack with AA. He flipped over AQo. I thought bingo I'm massive chip leader here.

Flop

Q Q x Busted.

That's poker. Stick at it.

Tho i think that MTTs are bs, in order to be leading for 3hrs you obviously ran really hot at the start of the tournament. Sucks when you can't keep running hot (or even decent) when it really matters but unless you play thousands and thousands of MTTs, whether or not you final table a large field MTT is still going to come down to alot of luck. I think everybody remembers the few hands that knock them out of an MTT in which they were doing well, without remembering how hot they had to run earlier in order to get to that stage.

Jerry Yang won the world series of poker MAIN EVENT. What does that say about MTT's?

Phil Hellmuth and Mike Matusow were in the top 50. What does that say about MTT's?

Ivan Demidov took 2nd in the US Main Event, and 3rd in the wsop Europe main event. What does that say about MTT's?

Obviously every poker tournament is a mix of skill and luck, but over time the skilled players will cash more consistently, and win more often.

i had to jam there, i had 100k, if i just called his 3bet, wouldnt even have much left behind. this was when there was like 30something ppl left so it was in a late stage

Fair enough. All you can do is keep making the right plays , and the results will come. I think it is fair to say Mtt's have the highest variance of all games because of the size of the fields you are playing against.

When you do hit, you get paid well for it though.
