I'm sure this topic has been covered somewhere on this site but I have not found it. At what point should I move up? Move down? Should I go by the numbers, move up when I reach a certain number of BB, and move down at a certain #? Anybody have any tips on what type of strategy I should use? Any input will be greatly appreciated.

this is one of those "it depends" questions. It all depends on what you are playing, since you said BB, I'm assuming you are playing cash games. In order to be successful and not go broke, you need to set yourself a certain bank roll management that you are comfortable with and you need to be disciplined enough to stick to it.

I'm assuming you are a fairly new player so the more buy ins you have the better it is, this definitely depends on how comfortable you are though. I would suggest having like 30-40 buy ins depending on what level you are playing (I'm talking about cash games just so you know), Then once you have 40 buy ins for the next level, I would move up and take a stab at it and basically just see what it feels like.

For moving down, depending on your discipline, I would move down after you lose 7-10 buy ins and still have plenty of buy ins for the lower level to build back up and come back to the level i was playing.

Try searching, bank roll management, I'm sure you will find a lot of threads on that.

Yes cash games I'm sorry should've specified. Primarily Limit poker, so by BB I meant Big Bet. Thanx For the suggestion

Just a suggestion but might want to edit your original post. When you ask for advice give as much details as you can, then you will get a lot more detailed and better suggestions. As for limit, I'm not experienced with it but I know its very swingy so if you are serious about making at it limit hold em, then I would definitely try to be safe as possible. I would wait and see if someone with experience at limit posts.
