So I have just finished watching the most ridiculous offensive propaganda nonsense cartoon I have ever seen. Bearing in mind I have studied propaganda out personal interest and have watched North Korean videos Nazi videos and Russian videos.

However this simply sets a new low for propaganda lies and nonsense.

we are talking an episode of the simpsons first time I saw the episode not sure if its new or not.

the premise Homer gets injured from some fast food place and sues receiving $5000 for Lisa's college fund.

taking the advice of moe he decides to deposit the full $5000 on a poker site.
not to gamble with but not to gamble with just to keep it safe because its safer then a bank. (not sure about that one may be true)

anyway bart gambles on the account and loses like $62 but then lisa after condemning him takes it over and runs it up to several hundred thousand.

there are a few problems with this all the way through firstly she is playing the whole characters from the whole town. further the whole time she is sitting down with her entire bankroll.

I thought lisa was supposed to be intelligent they show her as a gambling addict on a rush staking it all every time. Wouldn't lisa be familiar with bank roll management at least to a certain extent at?

where do these other charecters get the money from?

in the end rather predictably everyone knows where the story is headed lisa gets it all in with a full house aces full of 3s.

for some reason the charecters from around the town are playing every single hand, (no wonder lisa was so easily able to run up to hundreds of thousands)

anyway lisa goes all in on the river and everyone folds except sideshow bob who calls lisa says how can he possibly call me I have aces full unless oh no, and yep sideshow bob turns up pocket 3s for quads and scoops th pot busting lisa.

lisa looks like shes going to die.

ok lets break down the play here there was a 3 to the heart flush so flush possible, generally I wouldn't like calling of with the ace high flush in a 9 to the flop pot when somes gone all in on a paired board but there are many situations when calling a shove with the flush on that board isn't a mistake.

that aside what about all the other full houses? Js or 8s full etc.

but lisa's idea of he can only call my all in with quads is so stupid as why make a bet if the only thing that calls it is beating you. again I thought lisa was supposed to be smart.

however despite everything it turns out that sideshow bob wasn't really sideshow bob at all it was bart simpson in disguise saving his sister.

Bart is an idiot how would bart ever win that much from poker?

then they get the funds seized due to been under age and only get the original $5000 back.

thus they had a lucky escape as lisa apparently shouldn't have gambled in the first place but lost control and is lucky to be ok. what utter convoluted shite. when propaganda goes beyond a certain point the death penalty should be applied.

then the site a character says I assume they will refund all the funds to the players they took it off and the site says um bye implying theyd pocket it like a crook.

how would the site know lisa was playing on her dads account?

but more negative propaganda against the poker sites.

and lisa mentions that what about the characters that lose there money peoples winnings come from somewhere. Yes but not everyone is sitting down with everything they own.

it is blatantly obvious that Sheldon Adelson paid the Simpsons creators to make this episode producing there mis representations and misleading propaganda nonsense. the Simpsons has sold out and presented a lie to the public at large jeopardising our potential incomes I here by call for the whole poker community to respond by boycotting the Simpsons outright.

We'll the thing with shows like this you have to remember stupid stuff happens. It is the same with family guy. I doubt writers care if any good poker players watch. They just want laughs. This is asuming you were not being sarcastic.

Umm, it's a freaking cartoon........
Chill.....

your missing the point it is propaganda mis representing the industry to influence peoples opinions the public at large to be against this. gambling has attracted a lot of negative press in the media over here as well as in the states this cartoon not only threatens the likely hood of online poker coming back to Americans it can also threaten it over here to.

we need a strong charismatic debater not necessarily a poker played to fight for our cause I know of one already if I had the funds id pay to have him lobby for us.

once the poker players alliance got him on bored it would be game over wed win.

this guy is like the Michael Jordan of debating he is incredible, I don't think he plays poker but he believes in liberty and peoples right to free choice so he would be on our side.

How come you weren't complaining when The Simpsons did their Australia propaganda episode or their vegetarian episode or the anti-chili recipe episode?

It's a comedy (at least it was a few years ago when the show was funny), not a documentary.

Smart people can't be poker degenerates? Or idiots can't be good in poker? And some poker sites are crooks, so what. Can't be that offensive if there's some truth to it.

I srsly doubt anyone will base their decision to not do ANYTHING based on an episode of the Simpsons.

Lots of things people would no longer do if the Simpsons were to influence them...drink beer, go to bars, build houses, take their kids to daycare, shop in malls, go to Vegas,.....and so on.......

I love the Simpsons. I understand the Simpsons. It is a cartoon, not to be taken seriously. I don't understand the point of this thread. I am lost.

maybe not a single cartoon but actually media and cartoons are often used for propaganda people rarely consciously register after that episode I will be completely against x etc. However it does influence them and it does sink in.

that cartoon does do damage to our course and the poker players alliance will not succeed if they cant grasp the methods of propaganda which the other side are using in bulk.

I don't know if a boycott will work. The CCA (Chili Chef's Alliance) tried a similar boycott when Homer severely damaged their reputation. I know I haven't felt the same about chili after watching the episode.

Oh dear... a few things:

- First of all, this isn't a new episode. It first aired on November 11, 2012: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gone_Abie_Gone

- Second, the Simpsons portray all sorts of things in a negative light, from their own network to entire countries. Did anyone accuse the producers of being bribed by new zealand when they aired the episode all those years ago that made a laughing stock of Australia?

The idea that one subplot (and it's a subplot - the main plot of the episode, as reflected in its title, is about Grandpa Simpson) in one episode was included specifically as propaganda is paranoid, to say the least.

Very simple rule of life...

STEP 1...I have no problem making fun of myself.

STEP 2...I have no problem when you make fun of me.

STEP 3...If I can't make fun of you as well we have a problem.

Lighten up OP!

Missed this bit first time through: who exactly are we talking about?

The problem is that just winning a debate alone isn't going to get the job done. Politics is a difficult and multi-faceted beast. There's all sorts of interest groups, legal issues, revenue issues and legislative practicalities that need to be addressed - and that's if the voting public is on your side, which isn't a certainty. Having a winning debate argument only goes so far.

Just to add to what's pretty much been said, i.e. that it's a cartoon, much of whose fame has come from lampooning common social issues from around the world... Sam Simon, the creator/producer of the Simpsons, is a huge poker player. He's been on HSP/PAD multiple times and is Jen Tillie's ex-husband (who made a cameo appearance in that episode, IIRC). Pretty sure he's not going to do anything that he thinks seriously hurts poker's image.

Anybody making judgments... about anything... based on a Simpson's episode wouldn't be anyone to worry about, so I think our cause is safe, LOL.
