I made this topic in order to meet the most classical ways to cheat in a live poker table. Like most of my game is online I know very little about it. Until today only I witnessed two tricks:

1 - player putting fewer chips in blinds (mixing of lower chips and high chips). Works better at final stage of tournaments.

2 - player puts a mark in the highest value cards like aces and kings with the nails.

And you? Leave here your story. Gla!

At a casino or at a home game? You saw these done personally?

1. At casinos, the dealer will make sure blinds are correct. At a home game, it's really easy to count since different colored chips have different values. Just count it up. Or if they're stacking small denomination of chips, just ask for a count/stack breakdown.

2. If you see this, definitely bring it up at a casino. You don't have out anyone directly, just say "hey, there's something on these cards. Can we get new ones?" At home games, tell host.

Only cheating I ever see is angle shooting.

In casinos, but in my town they are very small and the dealers used to be a little amateurs. I saw this personally in a final table HU, one of the players places a sandwich of chips with less than the required value (masked by placing one or two lower chips in the middle of the stack). As at the time I was a rookie and kept quiet witness to this situation, but never more played there again.

As the situation of marked cards, this happened in the middle of a tournament that a player realized the ruse and asked to replace the deck.

A relatively common cheat is to produce fake tournament chips and then try to sneak those chips onto one's stack. Someone got busted for it recently in Atlantic City and sent to prison.

Five years for that seems very excessive. I can't imagine how he imagined he would get away with it. The total number of chips in play would have been recorded, and adding in such a large amount certainly would not go unnoticed.

Also, it doesn't seem like it would be too hard to counterfeit chips honestly. Paulson provided chips for every casino I've ever been at. Up until recently, Paulson sold chips to the public too. It's a simple clay/lead composite that is easily duplicated. Even the UV tag would be easy if they had one.

But actually using the chips would be near impossible. The casinos keep track of the chips like hawks. Which is understandable of course.

Here in Philippines. We have this thing called collusion wherein 2 players are friends and they played hand each other but the other player is just giving his friend chips so he can stay in the tournament. The higher stack will fold even though he got the nuts. One day I was curious so I told the dealer to open the card and boom! They got penalized. :)

Agree to collusion.

Either the players help each other and ganging an individual or may likewise those players are in cohorts with the dealer.

Many ways like chip damping, deck fixing, etc. and I was a victim before. They later admitted there acts.

At home games you might need to watch people carefully when they shuffle and deal. Some people will try to catch a view of the bottom card and then slip it near the top so that it will appear on the flop or in someone's hand. Others are skilled enough with cards to stack the deck for specific outcomes.

Why even waste your time opening a topic on cheating when it doesn't get you anywhere cause sooner or later everybody gets caught?

Yeah, agree with you, but tell me something pls..

I bet the next time you're playing poker live you will remember this post..

Here in brazil poker houses are "new" and I never went there simply because I am afraid of the so called collusion..

A few years ago, you would hardly hear of poker and when you hear something about poker house you would always hear about some players of the house who would simply force you out by teaming against you in the table..

Maybe that's why I never went to those places.. But in the other hand, there's been lots of improvements and here in my home town we have 2 very famous ones, and all I hear is good things from there.. Maybe I should give a shot.

Doesnt matter if its a Sport or a just a Game, there will always be someone trying to get the edge over others via cheating/hacking or just mods.

My kids play Sony Games and even these environments have cheaters. Infinite ammo, God Mode (cant be killed) and invisibility just to name a few.

Good thread though. Brings up a valid point that there are scumbags everywhere.

I agree that collusion is the most common form. I have seen guys not bet the nuts on the river because they didn't want to take chips from their friends, I've seen guys not bet against a woman because they think they can hit on her later, and other stupid things. I was in a tourney once at a casino in Iowa, and a guy called a big bet with a high card hand, and his pocket was like an 8-5. He was intentionally dumping chips to his friend who made the bet and who had a small stack. And the worst part of it is that nobody at the table said a thing about it.

I would think chip dumping or other collusion. Bringing in outside chips can be a big deal in bar type tournaments where the same chips are used repeatedly, very vulnerable to outside chips.

Other than that, I feel fairly comfortable in being protected in casino play. I could see some small field tournament chip dumps or soft playing ala men nygen.
