Hey everyone! I’m dealing with a kind of personal moral dilemma, and I thought I’d turn to those with more experience for advice.

This might sound silly, but my Uncle recently reached out to me, and told me he’s good friends with a few Casino Owners. He wants to open communication between me, and them because they can apparently give me the inside scoop on when the best Poker times are. Which games are the softest, when the tourists come in just to lose their money, which players you’d want to avoid, etc.

Now on the one hand this sounds like a solid hook-up! Very advantageous, and will help my long term profit big time. On the other hand I can’t help, but feel like I’m gaming the system. Not so much cheating, as I still have to play and win obviously, but is it wrong for me to use this kind of insider information to try and get ahead? Or am I just being a putz for not jumping on such a great opportunity, and using all the resources at my disposal?

It has been done for a long long time. If you are a good player, then this will attract others who want to get in against a regular who can up their play. The tourists can go back home and say they played against a native who showed them how it is done. If you are personable, then you will build up a good reputation and that will bring more people in.

Sure, there are some moral dilemmas, but I have a feeling some of this is to get slow times being more desirable. Ask if you can make a Vlog while playing. This can turn into a marketing device for you and them. If you start getting followers, they will want to play against you.

Some players have turned a relationship with casino owners into solid business situations that shaped modern poker. See why they want to have you and if it is for business reasons, there is no moral issue.

I have been around the fringes of poker for a couple of decades and am a student of history. I may not have the best advice at all times, but I do have the knowledge to craft a reasonable idea of what is possible. Knowledge is key to making any such decision. Gain all you can and this can go from a moral quandary to a valid business decision that can enrich many people. Remember that the casinos will be making more rake as you become a draw. Make a business plan and this could turn into a relationship that gets you into Bobby's Room as a friend instead of a possible fish.

Hello.
Deception, whatever it may be, is always deception. I believe that deception cannot help you succeed. Obviously this is your personal business, but think twice before making a decision. Good luck.

When something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. I would be very very cautious about accepting help like that from these people.

Normally I would say the same thing. If this were coming from anyone else I wouldn’t even have to think about it to know it was a scam, but coming from my Uncle? I know him to be a good man, and I trust him. I’m sure this is a legitimate connection. I just wonder if having a connection like this is wrong for a Poker Player.
