I keep hearing this from Fundievangelicals who are adamantly opposed to on-line Poker. They are all hypocrites, as I don't know a single one without a 401k. Oh, but they'll say that investing isn't gambling. When I hear claims like this, I defy them to tell me the difference. The casino has vig on all the games, and there's a rake at the Poker tables. How does that differ from a stock broker's commission they pay on every transaction? The stock market runs bullish and bearish; you have heaters and runbad at Poker, so what's the difference? They say they're investing in stocks; I reply that I'm investing in cards, so what's the difference?
As for lottery tickets, I've never bought one and I never will because I don't make such massively -EV bets.
I've made a helluvalot more at Poker than in the markets.
