Does anyone know which website I can go to to auction off playmoney for real money? I heard you can do this, and people pay for play money.

I guess it's not so "play" after all.

I never played play money long enough to lose it all, didn't know you could. I would imagine you're not going to get much for it.

I suppose it depends what you think "much" is. Rates are pretty high for a mill lately. Google it.

That is close to the going rate most of the "broker" sites offer to pay.

I'll mention in passing that, as of my last PS update, their dropdown Request tab has a new link titled Play Money Transfers that wasn't there previously. I didn't check it out, since it's been years since I olayed any monopoly money poker there, but it's possible PS is changing their stance re/ the practice of selling these. They officially frowned on it for a long time.

Wow, I thought it was a $1 per MIL. I'll have to find that one. Getting a mil will actually be worth the work. lol

I don't know how hard it is, or how long it takes to make 1,000,000 play chips, but selling them for $10 doesn't sound like a good deal for me. Maybe I'm wrong, but wouldn't it be a lot easier to cash in a freeroll for $10 than to build play chips?

NO. All freerolls play like freerolls, unpredictable, and erratic. At higher levels, ex;10K sng play, the game is much closer to real money games, thus more predictable, less erratic. Good poker is often found at those levels, meaning if you have a good game you can profit there.

I got up to 1/2 mil at FT because I heard that it opened up a restricted freeroll with real money payoff. It wasn't really a freeroll, it cost 1/2 mil play to get into it. So to play in that I would want my BR to be in the 20 mil range. This was one idea that could explain why folks might want to buy play money.

Those games at FT have recently disappeared, and are morned in the forum at FT. Perhaps some similar thing happens at Stars, I don't have a big stack of Stars play money and don't know.

As for why anyone would buy play money they could possibly make for free?

Those FT 'not so' freerolls might be one reason. Perhaps experienced players realize that the higher level play money games are pretty good, at least good enough to use as a pretty good training ground, and the $10 to avoid the low level BS is a good investment. Certainly cheaper than playing a bunch of $5 donk games.

One of these happens every day at the same time, which I think is 21:00 ET.(Maybe an hour sooner)

In response to everything else, all the money I ever got came from freerolls:p .

I understand, now that i know there are play money tourneys that pay real money. But, to sell the play chips for real cash? That still doesnt sound like a good deal to me.
I have actually seen the 10K play chip sng and was REALLY SUPRISED at how good the play was. But if 1M=$10, 10K=10 cents. So the players are sort of playing in 10cent sng's, lol. I really cant belive the play in these sng's are better than the $5 level.

Well, if it is that easy then its definitely worth building up play chips. Even if it takes a week to build 1M play chips, its probably still worth it. But like i said, i had no idea how hard it was to build up play money. I actually thought it would take awhile, and therefore you might as well build a BR using freerolls.

If merchants are buying play-chips then presumably they are re-selling them? and obviously that would be for higher than they are buying? who would buy that? I'm confused by this.

How is the payment made? into your poker account? Is pokerstars buying back play chips through third party 'merchants'?

Since they give them away by the millions daily, PS does NOT buy back play chips. What would be the point; they make them out of thin air(literally) every time a new user signs up.

Payment is made however the parties arrange. Transfer to a PS meal money account, paypal, green stamps, rools of pennies, whatever.

Yes, they are being resold, at a profit of $3-4 per million mas o menos to players too impatient, lazy, or inept to accumulate them the old fashioned way.

It really depends on how you prefer to build your bankroll to get to the 1million mark. i played on PS and build my first 100k through ring games, then play 27man 80K playmoney SNGs, first place pays almost 800K, these are are great for building your playmoney bankroll to 1million. For the 80K SNGs, the standard of play varies, but its definately on the higher end of the scale for playmoney. Of course, there are donk everywhere ( at times, i'm one of the donks too...lol ), you just have to bear with it.

There are also turbo playmoney tourneys with buy-in of 5000+200 playmoney and the first place pays 2million+, these tourneys usually run for 3-4hrs, if you're able to win it, Voila~! you now have a bankroll equivalent to $20 real money. ( $10 per million playmoney )

Some people buy playmoney to keep their girlfriends from messing around with their real money accounts, some buy cause they wanna try out thrashing out thousands at the tables, there are just too many reasons why people are buying playmoney, where some of which you might think is ridiculous.

For those peeps who thought you might wanna start a online business, selling playmoney seems to be quite lucrative, you buy at $10/million and you're selling at around 2-3times of your cost, good money isnt it?
by the way, if i'm not wrong, PS playmoney are worth the most.

please feel free to comment on my views.:D

If you know anyone that is buying these then let them know I have wads of Monopoly money I could be persuaded to let go of for the right offer...

As for Stars doing it, I've only heard that their chips are being traded so it seems strange, unless it is some kind of novel marketing strategy, which would make a lot more sense. It gets people off play money tables and onto the money games, good for maintaining traffic and in the same way people have trouble dropping limits I doubt many would go back to play money once they've had a taste. poker sites are giving out free money all the time so it wouldn't surprise me (except for the roundabout way, maybe a legal issue?).

I find it really hard to believe that anyone would buy play money (rather than just depositing and playing for real?).
