Howdy there I played a full tilt 180 peep SnG last night and won it gaining entry into a tourney or what I did was unregister and take the 100 full tilt points. I have only been playing poker for several months as I am and have always been a euchre junky, however I have tried my best to exercise patience and the much hated ability to fold.lol So, today I found a 90point SnG 27 peep t which I also managed to pull a win out of my hat gaining entry into tonights Midnight Madness 15,000$ tourney. My question is there are only 13 registered right now and its about 6pm and the tourney starts in 6 hours with a max being 5,000 peeps. Does this tourney usually fill to the max and is it worth playing or should I unregister and take my 11$ some where else? Thanks much.

Midnight madness usually has between 1200 and 1600 entrants... and with 216 places being paid it's very easy to cash. The bubble usually arrives around the 2nd break. Just be very patient during the first hour or so and then you can start playing a little more normally. Good luck.

Well you were right on it hit 1622. Amazingly my first five hands were full of aces and the flops were beautiful and the idiots went all in.lol I had the early chip lead for a bit and then the hands went to solid nothing for the next hour. Fold fold fold. Normally with a bigger tourney the tables get swapped fairly often however this particular table I ended up on that hour got set with a couple of guys that had double my chips and even when I felt I could call a decent hand the raises were ridiculous the entire time. So I sat waiting for a hand losing blinds to more of those raises and was sittin at about 3500 left got a couple lucky all in desperate attempts to stay in and was sittin at 9500 chips with only 360 people to go and the payout positions was raised to 261. All I have to do is fold.... After my lucky hands the one guy that had been being an ass the entire time with or without hands made some comments that...well you guys use the term tilted and that I was.lol Pocket queens came out he bet 1600chips or so I called...after flop it was like 3 5 9 so I bet 2400 and he pushed me all in ...could have folded and didn't....so the cards are shown he has k 8 no pair on the board last turn card gets his king...... Cannot say that I didn't see it coming thought to myself when he initially raised pre-flop just fold, however this is a big fault of mine in the bigger tournaments I get within 50-100 spots of these payout positions and everything I had been doing the entire time goes out the window.lol I realize this is long and drawn out but for any of those who get to this point any tips would be much appreciated, I have much respect for the game and realize there is much more to learn. Thanks!

U had pocket queens, you should of re-raised his pre-flop bet all in. Put the pressure on him. He might have been more apt to throw away his garbage k8 hand. He sucked out. You had it all sewn up. Tough break. I don't like smooth calling or slow playing with pocket queens unless it's against a certifiable donk. I am scared of kings!

Yah you got to pull the reraise right there. He bets 1600, you raise 1600. He goes on top you can decide to fold if you believe he has KK or AA. That way you still got the 5900 to live on. Most likely with K8 he doesnt call or if he does after the flop like an idiot you can shove after the flop expecting him to fold then. If not you got position you can check it down to the river the K pops you got to give it up if he Swings all in. You got to try and contain the pot or get him to give it up right away. At that point survival is the key.
Still yet he could have had a set when he went all in. Did you think that? You still would have been left with 5500 if you laid down. Laying down the big hand is hard to do but sometimes you got to do it.

Yeah i searched your name (nascarfanss) to see how you were doing about 15-20 min. in, and nothing came up. So i entered the midnight madness lobby and sure enough nascarfan(### don't remember what the #s were) is in 1st place. I kept an eye on your table while i was playing another tourney and you seemed to linger around 6K for a while. Don't worry about not cashing, you made it pretty far for your first time.

And yes i will almost always come over the top w/ QQ, this would have probably taken the pot down.

Yeah there was a number of times i thought to myself fold. I had a decent feeling he was betting on nothing just to be an ass and until the flop came up empty of kings and aces I prolly would have folded to another big raise but I thought I had him. I lose more than my share to someone else getting a lucky last turn card.

Cool to know someone else seen me sittin up in 1st was a proud moment..lol..so much so I decided to take a breather and fold for a lil bit as to not get a big head which may or may have not been a good move...shortly after that someone sitting with about 4500 chips forced me to fold an ace queen pre flop all in and after that I didn't see a face card or even a low pocket pair til after the first break.

I think I put more pressure on myself the closer I get to my goal to not make a bad move but doesn't really explain why I can't seem to quit going all in when challenged with a good hand late in the game. In these smaller tourneys I play the rules i have set for myself work 7 out of 10 times and in the bigger longer more drawn out tourneys where there are more chips to play with I usually get suckered by a chip leader at some point.

The only tip i can give you for bubble play is not to play as if you don't want to go out on the bubble, but rather that your shortstacked opponents don't want to go out near the bubble. This is when you can steal pots/ play overly aggressively to build a stack... If someone just wanted to cash, then i don't quite see the point of playing the MM. With the first 50 or so places paid only paying $4-5 on top of the $11 buy in, there's not much point in entering...
Personally i hate the payout structure of the Midnight Madness, but it's just so damn easy to cash that sometimes it's worth playing. Once the bubble is burst though, it drops from 216/261 to about 3/4 of that in a very short amount of time. This means that once ITM you can shift your play once again to the style of the beginning of the tourney. If you're patient after ITM you can easily make top 50-100 (which isn't much bigger of a payday), but it still feels better finishing in 60th than 215th...

you should have reraised the QQ pf.

not sure what your goals were, but really, you need to take risks at any time because your goal is to win, not get "in the money". Your QQ play was beautiful as done, he 3 outered you on the T/R.. it happens.. but you were definitely on the right side of everything.
