Do you mean "High Stakes Poker", the TV show? That's actually a cash game.

The "Masters of Poker" is a tournament with a flat $100K buy-in, according to the site. That should be some tournament. I wonder if there will be TV coverage.

I hope there is tv coverage, I would love to see this, the 100k buy-in would attract the highest ranked players.

The Aussie Millions had a $100K buy-in event last year... but that was in Australian Dollars, so this probably just pips it :p

The Peppermill in Reno NV is have a 100,000 buy in texas holdem and I think that will be the largest buy in around

The Masters of Poker at the Peppermill

Nice tourney to watch. Unlimited re-buys??? There is a 19yr old on here who throws his whole 7k bankroll on one hand so he's up for it.

Seriously though they do say they are planning on televising it, keep us updated if you find out what channel.

Tony:)

What's the conversion rate, Aussie to US dollars. Do Oz dollars have kangaroos and wombats on them, or queenie or whar?:D

I think we buy about 80 US cents to our dollar at the moment... and yes, all our money has the queen on one side.

The coins have different cute little animals on the other side (a couple of kangaroos, a playtpus, a lyrebird, an echidna) and the notes have famous people on the other side. The notes are also made of plastic and come in different pretty colours.

Name some famous Australians that are pictured on the notes. I assume Joe(Geico Gecko) Hachem didn't make the cut?

LOL - no, Joe Hachem didn't make the cut. I don't know if that many Australians would recognise him actually: he did the talk show circuit after he won the Main Event and hasn't really been heard from in the mainstream press since

I've only got a 20 on me at the moment, that has John Flynn on one side and Mary Reibey on the other. I have absolutely no idea who either of them are. The $100 note might have an Antarctic explorer on it, I'm not sure. Maybe I should've said 'historical' rather than 'famous' :D

Yep - first country in the world with plastic notes, I believe. The New Zealanders and Europeans copied us :D

For anyone who's interested, BTW, I've also got a 5 and a 10 on me today. The 5 has Queen Elizabeth on one side, a picture of Parliament House in Canberra on the other and is a pretty pink colour, while the 10 has Mary Gilmore on one and Banjo Paterson on the other in a tasteful shade of blue.

Banjo Paterson was a writer, no idea who Mary Gilmore is.

Someone feel free to put this thread back on topic, BTW :p

Would make for an interesting tournament since blind structures and stacks could be tailored more for play than they are in the ME or other lower buy-ins event that attract large crowds.

Rumour has it that there was supposed to be a 6 MILLIONS buy-in SNG
this year at that only Ivey had made his presence clear with 3 other people signing up and not wanting to get press on it. It was rescheduled for next year or something and yes, TV coverage was planned for it.

Australian money is so cool. Purple and blue and other colors. No mistaking any of the denominations there! I used to manage retail stores, and tourists from other countries would come in totally confused with U.S. money. They say it all looks the same, and our coins don't make sense because they're size does not indicate denomination. Of course I can tell it apart quite easily, but I can definitely see why it would be confusing.

Anyway, back to the OP...I wonder how many times our Freakakanus will rebuy? :)

Erm... dunno, could have been :)

The main event at the Aussie Millions nowadays is a $10K buyin. The $100K event is on this year too but it's basically just a small side-game for Team Full Tilt, Joe Hachem and a few rich Japanese guys. Erick Lindgren won it last year, Eric Sidel got second.

:D

You mean they don't show him parading around in the AU flag, screaming "Aussie,Aussie, Aussie, oyoyoy" like 2-3 times a day everyday. (sigh) How soon they forget!
