I just wanted to post this to see what many of you think about this im sure many of you agree with me. On a friday night game that i play in there is this guy who loves to buy in for more then whatever the deepest stack is. My buddy and i of course love this because he is hyper agressive and doesnt like to give up on his hands of course once in awhile he gets lucky and takes all of our chips. Anyway there are many people who don't like this because he pushes relentlessly and they can take the heat, its so bad that this last friday he showed up late so our game was full and the other table had a few of these people, well he sat down for a huge buy in and they broke up the game so that he wouldn't play oh and i forgot to mention he was drunk. What do u guys think about players like this and players who don't want to play w him. Also any tips on how to beat him i do ok but i feel like i can do better:)

Maniacs can be quite profitable to play with, but they can also induce high variance. It can also be pretty profitable to play with somebody who has been drinking, but sometimes it is more annoying than anything. Considering you guys get together only once a week, I can understand people not wanting to play with him in this situation. Nobody wants their Friday night to end early because they were stacked by some idiot who sucked out with a horrible hand.

If he is problematic enough to break up a game, I'd consider asking him to either not come anymore or tone down his drinking. An unpleasant playing style can be tolerated by most if the guy is at least friendly at the table. Pairing a maniacal, game-changing style with a personality soaked in alcohol can be anything but joyous.

Simply, play with strong starting hands in position and let the maniac hang themselves.

Just appreciate that with a maniac, when they do have a hand, it will be very well disguised.

With regards to breaking up the game, perhaps he has some maniac buddies he can bring along to make up the numbers??

decent advice their in the above post,

yea generally and by far the most important concept is position and
your image.

their are different skill levels of maniacs,
most of which you find in the local card rooms are bad bad gamblers who have
no idea what position or optimal play is.

you simply play in position with good hands,
as he will be too much of a dumbass to understand strategy and equity.

so youl be wasting time and money.

if he is a good maniac who knows the game well, then you will need to take not and use everything you know to conquer him.

(again as above poster says, generally maniacs try to trap with the nuts)
and play aggressive when they have nothing

maniacs are the best type of player to have at your table. Tighten up and let them hang themselves like someone mentioned earlier. I like to play a check calling game with these type of players.

I have noticed this with this guy when he hits big he checks to trap otherwise he bets the hell out of the pot . to the above coments i would never ask this guy not to play he is the reason we go there my question was what you guys thought about people who don't like to play with him because of his aggressive style.

I would play with a drunk and/or maniac for as much as I possibly can. This scenario happened to me this past weekend at my local casino. A drunk maniac sat down and kept raising EVERY SINGLE hand. He lost 2 buy ins. On the 3rd buy in however, he made it all back + a profit and left. It was a 4 way all in preflop hand, he had AJs and was facing KK, KK and QQ. He ended up rivering a flush. It was so sick, but thats poker. I would of loved to play with that guy more often.

Try to keep him on your right hand side. This we you get to choose if you want to play against his hyper-aggression or not. Oh, and buy him a round or two if he starts to look like he is gonna leave.

I will definetly keep him in mind he didn't show up last weekend wich was diapointing i think those idiots made him feel unwelcomed and he rather not go through that. He should be treated as a VIP like u said sonic buy him a drink don't break a game over him.

I know the feeling. We used to play a 60 man weekly tourney and they had a few guys that drank to much and played crazy. No need to raise preflop 20x the BB in most cases you know! Plus they can be a PITA to deal with when drinking. If a table breaks on poker night because one guy sits down that is a problem. You want his maniac play if you can make nice hands and allow him to all the rope to hang himself. But it does get old feeling like you have to call a substantial over bet just to see any flops. That's why you play tight and hit them hard. But as mentioned above be prepared when the idiot that has hit 5 1 outters in a row can suddenly wake up with AA or KK and you will never know it especially if you make a hand!

I find it works best when they are right on either side of me to trap them.

hello ... I believe that this style of jugdores they can be three betear more often putting it at risk all in on some positions .. for example, when he is on the button and we know that strong plays only because he has position and subtracting so many chips will go. also playing good cards and using their aggressiveness to get as many chips as possible. I send you a hug friend;)

When i play against those fellas i play even more solid. Only big hands (above 99 and AK,AQ) nothing more. Other important thing to destroy them is use position. Play with caution, fold every time you think you will lose a hand, don´t be pot commited and don´t gamble, that´s what they want. If you do all of this you will easily make money from them.

The are good to have around at your table because they keep the money flowing. With players that are eager to put chips in the pot you are always going to have a nice size pot to win when you have the nuts.
