Hey guys, I really would like to make the switch from sng's to NL ring games. I've played ring games before and pretty much just broke even. What should I know? What should I change? I looked around for articles, but cash game articles are hard to come by, anybody know of any really good ones?

I myself moved from STTs and MTTs to rings lately and am finding it much more profitable, but definitely a lot different.

The money's in the multitabling. If you can't do it yet, just practice. It'll get easier; I couldn't even 2-table a few months back but am now looking to add more to my current 8 tables.

Deep stacks change a lot of things - you've got to really plan your hands ahead of time to make sure you don't commit too many chips with marginal hands, you've got to make sure you build pots gradually with your monsters, and position becomes even more important the deeper you get.

You'll find a lot more postflop play in comparison to tourneys - STTs specifically. This was something I had trouble adjusting to.

Anyways I'm ranting, but with your bankroll I'd suggest either depositing enough to multitable 10nl (I'd say around $300 total), or wait until you hit that point. 10nl is so beatable it's not even funny, so all you should be doing is playing very strict hand starting hand requirements, and pounding the hell out of the pots when you get them.

yeah listen to what chuck had to say.

I switched over to ring games from sng's myself fairly recently and have been doing well at the rings. The money is in the multitabling and what chuck said is very true...it gets easier. I frequently multi 9 tables now and am thinking about fooling with a dual monitor setup.

But it definitely is different.. Will take some adjusting, how much really depends on you.

I made the switch over a few months ago. Before that I tried my hand at ring games and was terrible. Now I am just above a break even player.

If you are going to be playing at the microstakes I wouldnt invest too much money into that many pots. Wait for your good hands and make moves. Most people dont pay attention at these levels from what I have experienced. Maybe if you can get people to see that you are tight then you can try to trick it up a bit. I also believe playing aggressively works well at the ring games. Make your opponents be the ones having to make tough decisions.

Right now I am not a great multi-tabler, but like they said thats where your profit will be. If you just stick to great starting hands then you should be able to multi table and be successful. I hope for the best and good luck. Maybe we will run into each other

I play SnG's online and play Cash ( ring ) live so I have not multi-table yet though I hear it is the way to go ( have done a lil multi-tabling with SnG's ).
The main difference your going to be looking at is players are not done when they bust and if they do a quick replacement will be found, so you will always be playing with 9 to 10 players I would say 80% of the time . Whats this tell us Hand Values do not decrease through out the time your at a table. At the stakes Chuck is suggesting a solid game is all that is needed as Chuck has already suggested. Though I recommend experimenting ( it will cost ) but learning how to play marginal hands in MP and LP become very handy in cash games and are great tools to implement to tournaments . ( note: though at these low of stakes you might not want to, allot of players at these levels are elephants like 3/5 of them so beware )

I have the same problem. In the Sit n Gos (1 table) I've been 65% in the money since I started keeping track last month. My ROI is well over 70%. Playing ring money NL games ... UGH. I'm at -2.8% ROI. Maybe I'm just a good SnG player. I am looking to do MTTs now after reading this and seeing my level of success at the 1 table venue.

Avoid the tables where players are multitabling, you wont win much cash from them they only play the goods, make lots of notes on the other players, this will come in very handy, as you will meet a lot of players again, move tables if your table is very tight, find the fish.

When I deposit again this weekend I have decided to stay away from ring games. I always do fairly well in SNG's and then try and really build on it in ring games and it never works out.....
