when do you make notes and what do you put in them?
And do you get some good info on them later?

I only put 2 things in my notes. "Nice person" or "Jackass". I would like to know notes people had put on me in the past.

I makes notes all the time on people I play with. It can range from "had a nice chat with them" to mostly how they play certain hands. For example do they raise alot pre-flop with AK and then only limp afterwards if they don't hit it. Make lots of notes too on the mouthy ones that either I beat or beat me...i just try to remember something that might help me make them tilt the next time. In the absence of physical tells...online notes and programs like poker tracker are the next best thing

first thing I note is how many tables they are playing. you can deduce a lot from this

Make your notes meaningful to you. I like to know if a opponent goes allin preflop with less than ideal cards or allin w/monster hand only. This does not tell you what his hand is but give an indication whether to challenge or not. Slight advantage may same some chips in the long run. Some notes telltale if bluffer, a trapper, or has favorite cards to play, very important sign does he have a tendency to chase draws. Utmost pay attention to how they play and update their notes (people do get better).

Often I take notes, but these notes are more centred on my game that in my rivals; I know too have that take notes also of the game of my rivals to improve my game, but this one is a fault that even I have in my game.

for notes the best thing to have online is pokertracker. it will keep track of every single table that u have open every card and bet the opponents make. it basically shows u whats they are thinking and how they are playing. sometimes i like to post hand histories in the notes sections. it all depends on who im playing i guess. but pokertracker will tell u more then a hand history or even a series of notes will.

a lot of people object to pockertracker being used tho. but if ure multitabling u dont have the time to think about ure opponents actions. u have to know and react. i believe this is where pokertracker is more useful then anywhere else.

I note what I consider to be extraordinary plays. Not necessarily good or bad, but out of the norm.

Does a player raise 4x the blind with 74 off utg & hit a miracle board nobody put him on? Note it.

Also, If I make a particularly bad read and look like a donk, I'll put a note on the aggressive players that they read me as a donk, knowing that I can capitalize on it the next time I catch a monster. (this has made me a great deal of chips)

Basically, any read that will help me, I try and note. Rock, Maniac, Calling Station, ATC. (Am I the last player that doesn't use PokerTracker?)

It's also important to note when a player does something and in what type of game. Just because someone's a maniac in a freeroll, doesn't mean they are in a ring game or SnG, and not noting that can be costly.

Keeping notes can be invaluable, because the lower limit games are very incestuous. If it's 2 A.M., AlaskaGurl is multi-tabling micro-limit SnG's at Doyles Room for the next 4 hours. Ulvid logs on around 9 P.M. and plays 2 SnG's at a time until 3, but he doesn't multi-table as well as she does & is prone to timing out or pushing with middle pair or better.

Hope this helps.

player notes...

I haven't done this yet... but the guys over at CardRunners recommend it... in order to keep up with players, and their style of play...

example: if you sit down with an aggressive player that likes to play quality hands...

then you write that in... so next time, you know that this guy is not bluffing when he re-raises you all in...
