My database is getting kind of big, and I'd hate to lose it. Does anyone know how to make a backup of the HEM database to DVD?

Thanks.

Hi,
you must connect on the database through pgAdminIII.
Right click on your database, then save.
If the file is bigger than 1 dvd, you can use Winrar, or any other tools, to split it on 2 files fitting on 1 dvd.
Just to let me know, as you have a 2 dvd database, and I'm planning to buy HEM too. Did it take a long time for your db to grow so big ?
Do you play really a lot each day?

The way I do it is to backup my HH text files to an external HD. I have my Norton backup new files every couple of days overnight. If I ever need to restore, I can choose how far back I want to restore my PostGres DB by choosing how far back I want to restore.

A decent 100GB+ external HD runs around $100 or so. Might be cheaper than buying and running through packs of recordable DVD's.

Oops. Fixed my post.

Thanks for the advice. Yes, it makes sense to just backup the HHs. I didn't think of that. They will probably zip down pretty far, too, to save space. Then the database could be rebuilt if necessary. That sounds easier than trying to find the actual database files and archiving them.

+1 on backuping the HH. Also a better solution if you ever decide to switch to a competing solution like PT3 or some other program that could appear on the market later on.
