I suppose that grumbling players are a normal part of this game. I read a lot of posts where folks are getting upset, second guessing plays, talking about taking a few days off (sometimes a good idea, actually). I had this happen to me a few days ago, where every big hand and correct play I made was crushed by a lesser skilled player sucking out on me with hands that were less than ideal to call a raise with out of position in the first place. It cost me 3 MTT's in a row, no less.
So, instead of letting it get to me, I decided to take a break; remembering a favourite poem for getting out of the dumps and back to butt-kickin mode ("Go not gentle into that good night" by Dylan Thomas), I decided to do my own poker version of it and I hope it maybe will help you as it has me.
Do not go gentle into that shallow rack
Do not go gentle into that shallow rack,
Short-stacked players should burn and rave at close of day’s play;
Rage, rage against the dying of your stack!
Though wise players at their end know chances of winning is slight,
Because their pairs had felted no donkeys they
Do not go gentle into that shallow rack.
Good players, the last breeze by, crying about some quack
With missed open-enders that should have felted them away,
Rage, rage against the dying of your stack.
Wild men, who saw a good flop, called with all of their black,
and learned, by the river, they had tossed it all away
Do not go gentle into that shallow rack.
Grave men, nearly felted, who double with garbage none can crack
Hands that felt monsters, as if child’s play,
Rage, rage against the dying of your stack.
And you, table captain, who need not look back,
bless me now with your weakest plays, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that shallow rack.
Rage, rage against the dying of your stack!
What does it mean? I ABSOLUTELY WILL NOT GIVE UP, NO MATTER WHAT!!
