I suppose that grumbling players are a normal part of this game. I read a lot of posts where folks are getting upset, second guessing plays, talking about taking a few days off (sometimes a good idea, actually). I had this happen to me a few days ago, where every big hand and correct play I made was crushed by a lesser skilled player sucking out on me with hands that were less than ideal to call a raise with out of position in the first place. It cost me 3 MTT's in a row, no less.

So, instead of letting it get to me, I decided to take a break; remembering a favourite poem for getting out of the dumps and back to butt-kickin mode ("Go not gentle into that good night" by Dylan Thomas), I decided to do my own poker version of it and I hope it maybe will help you as it has me.

Do not go gentle into that shallow rack

Do not go gentle into that shallow rack,
Short-stacked players should burn and rave at close of day’s play;
Rage, rage against the dying of your stack!

Though wise players at their end know chances of winning is slight,
Because their pairs had felted no donkeys they
Do not go gentle into that shallow rack.

Good players, the last breeze by, crying about some quack
With missed open-enders that should have felted them away,
Rage, rage against the dying of your stack.

Wild men, who saw a good flop, called with all of their black,
and learned, by the river, they had tossed it all away
Do not go gentle into that shallow rack.

Grave men, nearly felted, who double with garbage none can crack
Hands that felt monsters, as if child’s play,
Rage, rage against the dying of your stack.

And you, table captain, who need not look back,
bless me now with your weakest plays, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that shallow rack.

Rage, rage against the dying of your stack!

What does it mean? I ABSOLUTELY WILL NOT GIVE UP, NO MATTER WHAT!!

are there still short stackers?, thought most sites made it much more difficult for short stacks to easily employ their strategies

Ok, clearly my rapier wit and rapscallion talent is wasted on you people. Of course, thinking anyone under 40 ever even of heard of Dylan Thomas or would really be interested in this cleary countermands the first line in this comment.

Just kidding folks, thanks for your replies.

I got it,
indeed only opened the thread because of the curiosity in the title.
After seeing some of you previous posts though I wasn't really expecting it to be what I was thinking. So was quite surprised that it was. Good Night.

Ah, solving that question brings the tournament director running.

Days

By Philip Larkin

What are days for?
Days are where we live.
They come, they wake us
Time and time over.
They are to be happy in:
Where can we live but days?

Ah, solving that question
Brings the priest and the doctor
In their long coats
Running over the fields.

The title made me think of 'do not go gentle into that good night'.
But your other posts appeared to be more gung ho rednecky style than literary buff.

Maybe because that was the genesis for it?

If you liked my "don't fear the bully" post, check this one out;

In life, as in poker, I like to shift gears. I'm sure you can plink around and find more "gung ho rednecky style" or "literary buff" that I have written. :)

I didn't like the don't fear the bully post.
I don't agree with you and Mike Caro. Calling bullies bleeds chips.
They need to be treated with 'shifting gears', a mixture of catching them out and being a bigger bully when stronger than them and some tactical manoeuvers.

But I checked out double belly busters anyway and liked.
Always liked the double draws (same odds as an open ended but so much more disguised). Never really thought about deliberately choosing starting hands to get them in that way though until now. Or having to be wary of how suited connectors might have hit more than just the obvious boards.

Have you ever driven an articulated lorry?
If so then you will understand when I say I only seam to like half your gear ratios.

Fair enough. But folding to bullies bleeds chips as well, in pots you simply get bullied off of. If out-bulling the bully works for you, best of luck. It usually does not. Try his site and read it. Might change your mind.
