I was playing a cash table online today and a guy beat huge and before I folded I let some time run off and said I had JJ. After that I won 3 good size pots off of him when I was bluff earring because he always thought I had a hand. Do you guys do this and what does it do to the other players to make them think you usually have a hand after you do it?

I usually take what they say and believe the opposite. If they said they had a hand, I assume they did not

Ya, Whenever someone tells you what they have instead of showing you what they have their usually lying about it. I know I've done this numerous times in the past and every time I did, I was lying. Lying is bad but its a part of poker (bluffing) That's just the game.

I always assume that experienced players are trying to manipulate my perception of them. I attach no weight to what they say about their cards unless I see them.

I think that it is usually best to say nothing about one's hand and to keep one's opponents guessing.

Poker is all about lies.
Rule #1: Don't Play Cr4p
Rule #2: Lie

I agree. You shouldnt say anything. If someone asks you what you had tell them they could have paid to see and move on. If you want to lie, lie. If you dont want to lie because of some moral dilemma gambling isnt looked at as beging a highly respected practice either.

poker has a word for that: bluff, you tried to influence the decision of the opponent in your side,

remember once negreanu was playing a hand, he was dealt T-9, and he enters the pot,
the villain was handing KK,

the board went: 9-8-2

KK bet and negreanu raised KK paid,

turne went: Q,

negreanu bet again, and KK paid,

river went: 8

no flush possible, no straight, maybe full house, no aces in the board

so KK bet, and negreanu put a big raise

and then negreanu went to speak:

he said: `it`s illegal to me to say what he has`

croupier: `no``

negreanu said: `ok you have aces or kings`

KK immediately folded,

this hand was chosen the best hand and it was a remarkably bluff

If he wasn't lying why doesn't he just show his hand? I never believe anyone unless they show. If they are just "telling" I would just assume they are trying to tilt you or keep you from doing something in future hands.

if someone is holding there cards or shuffling there cards in a hand it always seems like they are weak.

This always happens right before they fold.

Whether they show or tell what they have, they are doing it for their own reasons, not to make you feel better.

I remember watching this video and thinking that he probably didn't mean to say it in a way to bluff the fella out of the pot. Just thinking aloud. But still... was epic.

Bluffing you must understand and weigh several factors

0) is the most important range of hands your opponent

1) Do you have fold equity. Can fold opponent made hand

2) what hands you represent

3) Statistics opponent

+1 Top pros like D. Negreanu can manipulate very well with conversation. Got to be on guard against players like him. :D By the way, nothing against D. Negreanu. He is actually my fav. player.

I will almost never volunteer information whether it's a lie or not. However if someone makes a random guess at what they think I had, I'll tell them they were right. They very rarely are, but it helps me understand how they think and it makes them feel comfortable with their thought process/play. This encourages them to behave predictably which is always a plus for me.

Considering poker is all about information you wouldn't wanna be relying on some uncertain info. Don't judge what someone says unless you see it for yourself.
