So if you are on a losing streak I'm not saying you lose everytime but you are not making a profit. As a beginner with real money but an avid poker player for a long time

Do you stop playing for real money for awhile and start over... go back to reading books play for play money

Or

Do you keep at it and go to lower stakes and build your bankroll back up.

Or

Juss give up all together this ain't the game for you. Kill yourself and die

This is actually a good question since we all have some specific ways to go through a losing streak. Personally, when it comes and it comes eventually, through years of playing i came to conclusion that it's best for me to just logout for a day or two, or more for that matter if necessary.
Can't wait to see other's thoughts on this subject

Dropping down a level (or more) to preserve what's left of your bankroll is pretty important. The last thing I want to be doing is putting more money into a game that's not making money. Plus, the play is going to be different at the lower levels. I find the lower levels (but NOT freerolls or the really cheap tourneys/SnGs) to be more passive, usually tighter and more predictable - hence easier to win and build your bankroll back up.

Drop down or maintain good bankroll management or taking a break are all viable strategies.

The most important thing is to not panic and also staying disciplined to not raise to higher stakes because you're desperate to recoup what you lost.

Definitely lower the stakes of the games i'm playing to build back up my bankroll. Proper bankroll management is a must in the world of poker. You can survive the losing streaks and get back on your game.

I’ve just started playing again but when I used to play a lot many moons ago, if I had a rough streak I would move down a level or two until I get my bankroll back up. Maybe take a short break but like they say, when you fall off the horse just get back on.

RE:

Personally in my experience, when I go on a big losing streak it usually tilts the crap out of me so I literally shut my computer off and have my wife take it in order to keep me from playing anymore for a period of time. It helps to clear my head and take time to mentally refocus.

I take a vacation from everything when I have a losing streak. Sometimes it is not just your game that has leaks, but also your mind and your thoughts about other things going on in your life. Breaks, vacation, and relax til you feel you are up to par.

Depends if you're losing from bad calls or variance. Bad calls would send you looking for leaks in you're game. Variance is making the right calls and not getting the results. From there you can figure right path.

I just go on full tilt and blow my cash bankroll then i cant play anymore for a good while :) lol

Thats a joke - i have done that before and trust me you always feel like crap when you make mistakes like that. I am in a downswing right now, over a month of runbad and some crummy sessions - last night things seemed to be getting better so hopefully they do.

In between when experiencing periods like this - i stay away from playing any real money games for at least 24 hours - i usually try to make it a couple days. Some of the best advice i have ever gotten was just take a breather and play some freerolls just to get your a-game back on track and get your head back into the game.

Goos luck - just know that all down swings like really good runs - come to an end :) you will get through it

Dropping down in limits, playing freerolls, reviewing your play and studying are good ways to deal with a losing streak. Also, just taking a break for a day or three and doing something else you derive enjoyment from.

If I start to lose then I turn for a while to low rates and inexpensive tournaments so as not to lose the bankroll, but later I try to play again at big bets!

The best option is to look at where you are making mistakes. Then read or watch on the Internet video games of good players. Well, be sure to go to play for smaller bets.

You take a step back, give yourself 2 or 3 day break doing something you really enjoy.

Play fewer tables, 3 or 4 tables tops so that you are able to make more optimal decisions.

If you find yourself doubting your edge. Review your hands off the table and analyse whether it's your decisions or the downswing.

Go conservative with expenses and move down stakes if possible

First take a day or 2 break from the game so that you can clear your mind. After that analyze your last games and try to understand if the variance is hitting you (you play correctly but get beaten) or you are making mistakes. Poker tracking instruments are useful for such purposes as they allow you to easily see your previous played tournaments and individual hands from them and try to catch any weaknesses in your game. If you see some problems try to read some articles or watch some videos and improve your game. If you see that your bankroll is getting low you should also go to lower level till you stabilize it.
