i play with 888 poker. When i started i lost about $200/- (not in a day) just to find out which game suit me most. Then i found that i like "flopomania" (a new version of holdem). I played there and recovered a good portion of $ 200/-. Unfortunately, they stopped "flopomania" after few months. Thereafter i started playing fixed limit games and gaining most of the time.

What i am trying to say is that you need to lose some money initially to gain experience and adjust with that particular type of game from where you can make an U-turn and win. initial loss might be an investment.

Hi.
I agree with you. But you also need to be able to constrain your own expenses, because there are quite a lot of people who lose money and can not stop. The financial discipline in this case is very important.
Good luck.

I can not say that I completely agree with you. But there is some part of the truth in your words.

I think, partly it is true. Probably mostly at the beginning until you found your favourite and most profitable game. Well, maybe also when some new game format it is introduced and you are curious to play this. Then you you can find out, if it fits to you. But genereally, you don't want to loose too much money. Well, of course it happens to everyone, when you have some kind of downswing. But better trying to avoid this and let the bankroll grow.

The longer you play, the more surely you will eventually get caught in the "river killer" net, due to simple poker odds, and sureity of that .01% loss occurring... at least every 1 in 10,000 hands... as the percentage states...
fixed limit seems to be a bit better for me, in consideration of the fact that a persons ego gets nullified, by a "non all-in bet", where a devastating loss is avoided.
I prefer omaha hi lo for its stimulation...:cool:

Hello.
I am actually a beginner. I play poker for only 5 months. After losing $ 70, I realized that I needed to start a thorough study of the game. And I agree with you, such costs can be called investments. This is acceptable to me.

Some people need a smack to the head.

Some people need a smack to the head in order to learn; some need to lose money.
I prefer to get my knuckles rapped a few hundred times in freerolls in order to learn how to win.

I think it's very important to be able to control yourself and your expenses. Play only for the money whose loss will not be a serious problem for you.

Part of the learning process unfortunately. Someone mentioned learning material, should already be factored into you're bankroll management.

Thanks for your advice, I totally agree that it takes time to figure out which form of game suits you the best and most profitable. Whether it is sit and go, tournament, cash game, bounty tournament, the best way is to explore more and find the most suitable game.

What are you saying happened to you but that doesn't mean this way of how things went at you applies to all players; so don't try to do from your situation a general rule which applies to everyone because isn't true;).

It's good to choose one type of poker game and specialize in it. Become a professional in one poker format and win a million dollars. Simple :) . I also played in variations of poker and chose the one that brings me the most profit.

In everything in life you need to invest to have u do not see how lose money, but as an investment that is that you will return time and money invested in it

But poker is a game that is not easy to get to the top is because it is difficult to grow the bank money or because it is difficult to make money given the dedication of the players that are in the game

Well that's good luck

I have these moments when I foolishly lose money, but I tell myself that it's not a loss, this acquisition, for these money I buy knowledge experience. Similarly, in poker, when we lose losing money it is important to understand it correctly, do not tell yourself that you are an idiot and a loser, you need to say that everything is good, I bought the knowledge and experience, make a note in your head that you no longer need to do so.

Yeah Lena I agree completely, I too started to study thoroughly the game, specifically Texas Holdem No Limit for Cash tables of 6-max, after losing $15 in a couple of hours some days ago this week.

Absolutely. You should consider your first few buy-ins to be an investment into your future poker career. There are so many things you just don't know until you start playing, even basic things like which game types / stakes you want to play or what is your ideal time to join a game. Then, thereare little patterns that will become obvious after you see them happen several times. Another thing I can't emphasize enough is that the stakes/level make a huge difference. If I raise pre-flop with KK, I'll get 4 callers in a micro stakes or free roll game. In a $300 buy-in tournament, I'll usually either get 1 caller or just steal the blinds. They are completely different games.

Most of us initially lost money until you got used to the game itself, and as you gain experience you also realize which poker game suits you best and where you have remarkable results but until then you have to invest some time and money.
