There is a game (1/2) that has tons of fish . In fact when I refer to this game I tell other players I'm on the way to the Aquarium. I've been playing poker for about 7 years. It's the longest commitment I made to anything in a long time so it's to that level that I know I want to take it to another level. Well here is the situation the game that I speak of has players calling any and just about every hand because of non strategy reasons ( its suited , I already got my blind in there so let me call 20 , and this one is classic " I called with my 45 off because I know you raised with a strong hand") For whatever it maybe people with money just looking to play, people with no money trying to hit a big pot or people actually think they have what it takes to be that good in poker. What strategy do you take to these games? Don't play is an option but my problem with that is what if your at a casino or poker room and I run into a similar crowd. I know I can't escape problems to solve them , you must face them. I try buying in for the min, for the average, playing tight agg, or like a rock. Sometimes I win but not as much. These fish don't cash out much either so I figure there has to be a way to join that club of the few that approaches the Aquarium and win.Thx in Adv

My strategy is typically to drink, play every hand, and still run at 50 bb/100.

If you can't beat live 1/2, you should just go to the bar. Your money will go farther there.

You say you've tried playing "like a rock," but I sort of doubt that your definition of the phrase "like a rock" is different than most people's. Against loose fish you should usually be tightening way up and waiting for premium hands so you can value bet them all the way to hell and back.

Do you use any poker software like Poker Tracker or Holdem Manager? If so, consider posting your stats on this thread so people can see how you really play. If you don't have either of those, and you're at all serious about poker, you should consider getting some software, or at least trying out some free trials. It's software like this that will be crucial to plugging up leaks, getting decent hand histories to review, and being really frickin' fun to mess around with. :D

Other than that, quick rules about playing against loose, fishy players:
- Play fewer hands
- Play in position as much as possible
- Try to raise more and call less - do not allow multiway limped pots
- Value bet them MERCILESSLY -> if they will call 3 streets of pot-sized bets with middle pair, you punish them for it!

Hope that helped, but really, software and posting hand histories on CC for review will be some of your best resources in improving your game.
