Playing poker proffesionally looks pretty but isnt mainly because its not a game of proper skill.
You might not even win for months and continue to be in losses purely due to variance.
The biggest example is gus hansen,
He played online poker for 7-8 years and lost 22 million dollars.
And coping that losses and bad beats needs serious temprament which everyone cant have!

Why torment yourself? If you lose a lot of money playing poker, then you need to change the game, or attitude to it. Do not have to do things that are alien to you and do not fit. Change the situation and find yourself in something else) And on the other hand, maybe just the time of your victories has not yet come. In any case, it is necessary to fight to the end and never give up, good luck!

To lose 22 million dollars, you must have at least $ 22 million. An example with Gus Hansen is not acceptable for most players. Although such examples are used to advertise online poker, think - how many players are willing to lose so much money?

If your game does not work out, you will end up playing poker (or any other games) as soon as the size of the losers reaches your limit.

poker has already been proven, that is a sport of mind, that it takes strategy, study, dedication to make a profit, and anyway, do not forget that if he lost all this of millions he was playing very loud, and he was the fish of the table! if he moves to tables of smaller values maybe he would be the shark! to play poker you need to leave pride aside!

Poker is an extremely difficult way to make good money these days professionally. It's not 2004 anymore. The player field is just way too skilled now to make a solid living at it.

It isn't easy but for a select few willing to put in the time and effort, manage their lives and emotions properly both away from and at the poker table, there is still a tiny chance for a good living to be made.

The things is that it definately looks good but maybe a lot of it are just smoke screens. I like your example about Gus and his losses of millions. I was watching a video of Doug Polk on this subject, where he look the online profits of well known poker players. And there was a ton of losing players! Even Negreanu had more losses than profits. So that definately should say something about how easy is to make a living nowadays from online poker..:(

When you watch live broadcasts of games on poker, and you see a completely different game than online. And what's the difference to say there and there are people playing poker...

Its true that you can losse for months only due to variance but i think if you really play good at the end you are going to be winning player, but its really hard and you need to learn and play so much to get to that level

I think that it has become harder and harder to make a living from poker. Back when the pokerboom started there were just so many fish splashing around in a pond of $$. Nowadays you have to take it very very seriously, put in many hours of studying and perhaps even move to a country where the cost of living is very cheap. This will cut down the monthly expenses such as rent, food etc and will help you keep a positive balance easier.

Interesting:
- to win a lot of money: I need to play against Gus?
- 10 years ago, the same stories went around: ''it used to be easy''
- poker players tend to report winnings, but conveniently forget: buy-ins, expenses, tax, etc.
- have a look at BRM and you find that you cant loose more than you win
- poker is a game of luck+skill, as a player you have a certain skill and need to select the game/stake which is profitable
- the luck aspect means you can loose, and it seems a loosing streak can last a while. In case you don't like that, chose another game or play freerolls, or use playmoney

If a player is constantly losing a lot of money in poker, then it is better not to play poker or take a break, but you need to change the style of the game or play other games, to play poker you need a lot of patience and skill to win, but I do not understand how can lose 22 million to the player and do not win anything!

open question

I think you should play the game because you enjoy it first and money second.

Otherwise I dont think in the long term your going to get much satisfaction out of the game.

As far as your example goes however it doesnt take much digging to find other professional players with very successful careers wins and bank balances.

I believe that fighting against the variance is the most difficult, if already bad for the recreational imagines for the professional. without counting the own pressure by result

Currently my poker game is unprofitable.
Spending money is unpleasant, but it is an integral part of the game and learning.
But I am sure, that in the future, I will be able to increase my bankroll.
For this, I study and play every day.
