Never really got this, currently on Stars there's a table with 13 people waiting on it. Even if the table's full of fish, by the time the 13th gets on the fish will all be gone. Unless the 13th notices that the others on the waiting list above him are all fish. Anyone have any reasoning to why people do this?

not sure, but one day I was sitting at a table and people were talking about how they are cursed on one table and lucky on another, if thats the case, they are kind of dumb imo. Also I thought those were those people who think poker is rigged.
And your point is definitely true, by them they get there the fish will be gone, but I really don't see the point either.

Well this is definitely a result of the 2x promo, there's just a load of regs willing to play upto 24 tables as a result. Also when ppl are table selecting there probably just auto register on the tables with the highest VPIP and plrs/flop, without even looking at how many are registered.

i think it's the simple fact that people *don't think* about that. It's free to register, takes about 2 seconds, doesn't commit you to anything, and there is some slight chance that 14 of those people in front of you will pass when their turn comes up for whatever reason.

you are right though..mostly it's a waste of time.

cuz they are nuts. i like to start my own table and wait for people to join. i do this a lot on omaha 6 handed cash games on small sites especially. the smaller the site i find the easier to take the money. anyway gl and i would suggest just getting on an almost full table or an empty table. play on.:D

Maybe it's a result of Table Tracker now working at Stars. All the regs are using it for table selection???

Well I just sort the tables by VPIP and join all the waiting lists without really looking at how many people are on it. I'm not stupid :(

Note mostly this is NOT regs. Granted there will be the occaisional reg somewhere, but mostly it's people I don't recognize. Also although it's been magnified with the 2x promotion, it's common to see at least one table with a double digit waiting list during peak times. Like I get the point of table selection is to find the loosest tables, but even if you've got an average pot of 30 big blinds, a vp$ip of like 35%, you know it's not going to stay that way when 10 other people who also are using the same logic you are (thus probably not absolutely horrible, because they consider things like this) replace people at the table. Personally I'll do the ones with 2 or less first, then if I need to I'll do the 3-4 person waiting lists, but after that I'll just wait for tables to have less and get on them. There's always a 6 big blind 9% vp$ip table with 0 or 1 people waiting, and most likely when the fish get replaced it'll resemble that table more than the juicy one you signed onto.

w/e, pretty sure Chuck hit the nail on the head.

Chuck nailed it.

I can honestly say that I did this once. I joined the waiting list for a table with some insane VPIP. Once I got seated, the table was full of super nits and I left after a few orbits. Lesson learned.

Now I just join open tables and leave if it's not a decent one.

I never join a wait list if there's anybody already on it, esp. not on PS. There's so many tables, games, etc. What's the point? Life's too short.

Help me out here. I'm unsure what y'all are looking for in table selection. Using the screenshot below, is there something I should be looking for?

What does that tell me? How many players enter a pot?

Yeah pretty much players per flop is what you're looking at. Having a high Avg. Pot is good too but you know that if there is tons of players seeing every flop your monster hands are likely to get paid off.

It's just the average number of players who have seen the flop over the last 20 hands. I think it's 20 hands anyway, I asked Stars before and I'm pretty sure that's what it is.

So if there is 6 players at the table and the players per flop is 50% then on average 3 people are seeing the flop.
