I started playing online poker and practiced several years before trying a live tournament. I was all hyped up about trying to read faces and signals from the other players. As I kept playing live tourneys, I started to notice there is no difference in the game play as online, meaning you still have to consider people are going to get into pots they shouldnt be in with crap. Mind you, these are just $20 entry tourneys, but I expected more from live play. Yes there are some signals from players, but most of these signals are the amounts of a bet or raise, not much facial signals. So my respect for online poker has risen from just a practice place. I would be just as comfortable playing a money tourney online as live.
The big wsop is a different story.

That does surprise me a bit. I guess those "never-folds" are everywhere ... like a virus!

$20 is nothing in live poker. Guys don't mind losing that at all. It means more online because of the hassels to get it on and off a site, but when a guy has $400 cash in his pocket, $20 is nothing.

Mike Caro is fond of saying "people don't play poker to fold". Of course there's more to poker than that, but you're going to have to move up in stakes to get more serious play.

I also found I make simple mistakes that I wouldnt have made playing online. I think its just the pressure of having people looking at you and waiting for your decision. I am not a good people person, so that bothers me more than others I suppose. I understand the concept of a person with a nice bankroll taking more chances in a game, and understand they dont play to fold. I think I just have to loosen my game some although I do watch to see if the hand I folded would have won. Most times I was right to fold. I am a tight player so my bluffs work pretty well, but I usually have an out when I bluff. I think I will practice more before going to atlantic city (45 miles from home). Alot of guys I play live with go there and I do pretty well against them.

Online poker is way stronger fields than live. The calling stations that have evacuated internet poker are still extremely prevalent in a brick & mortar.

It is harder to play live because you have to keep your poker face and don't give away any tells. It is also harder to bet live, because online shows you have the chip number and pot size, so you don't have to think about as much. Live poker you need to think and bet while not giving anything away.

i like live games better, cuz you honestly get to feel the table out. Online is just a name and you click away, so i feel like you can lose more money online than in live cash game, since you see more hands and the conveniance of being at home is easier to access money.
