Hi,

What about the difference between live and online poker? I play cheap MTTs online, and also not so expensive (<10 eur) live tournaments. From my owm observations, live poker is WAY more skill requiring. Maybe it is the cheapness of online games that I play, but I do not see as much people calling to the end with KT or QJ with overcards on the table. The online game is much looser, making it more difficult to me (I'm naturaly tight :)). What do you think?

Online low stakes are far looser, because if you drop out you can immediately start a new game. If you play with mates, or in a pub, or in a casino, no matter what the stakes are, most people will play tighter as they cant play another game until everyone else is done.
As for more skill being required in live games... I disagree, for the simple reason that you get way more information from a player you can physically see. Online you only have your notes on a particular player and your gut instinct of how they are playing. Live, you can pick up tells and mentally note how your opponent plays certain hands.

It depends.. when i play at home games with people that just play poker for fun then its almost as playing microstakes online. But i played in casino and its totally different experience.. People play tighter (some of them not because they know anything about TAG or LAG styles(well maybe some of them), but probably because they are a bit out of place (lack of confidence), like me for example. I played my first game in casino and i played unlike myself as when i play online or home game.. I played very tight and was giving too many people credit for their raises.. Maybe the lack of confidence in their skills causes them to play tighter when they play in casinos? no sure. I mean i might be mistaken because i only played few times in casino, but like you saying online game is very loose when it comes to microstakes and probably low stakes i cant say anything about mid and high since i never played on those levels..

My own expierence is quite similar. I play casino tournaments, and first few times felt like I was a kid in daddy's office :) Also playing live is more difficult (for me) to detach fom emotions. Hard talk and a few good hands may create a cool image of someone, and I will feel far more reluctant to call his raises. Another point for me is fear to look simply stupid :) I still feel quite a noob in those places, so would like to build a solid reputation, so I restrict myself from being too loose. Online we rarely see same people again, and can turn chat easily, so more attention can be devoted to play itself. And no one will giggle behind our back, when we make some stupid mistake :)

I think live games require more skill because you can pickup tells from your opponents emotion and swagger unlike online games you can read your opponents emotions.Plus they are always players who go all-in almost every turn.

I always prefer live for hi stakes but I also have played some $260 buy ins online for big payoff tourneys.

I personally like the 180 player tourneys for $10 or $20

Man, in my hometown we have a poker club where we play a freeroll with unlimited 10 dollar rebuys til 1st hour break, and then 20 dollar add on at break. usually about 40 people there at least. I make it to the final table nearly everytime. It rocks. I have had horrible luck online. It seems that people usually suck out on you on the river, in hands they had no business even being in in the first place. I like live games much better. But online is way more convenient.

I think there are loose and tight players everywhere... it doesn't matter if it's online or in a casino. A few weeks ago in Vegas I saw a guy blow $300 in 30 minutes playing $1-2 at Planet Hollywood, he saw just about every flop and thought he was good with any pair.

Live Cash Games Vs. Online

Well for the past month I have been playing live cash games that I started with a few of my friends... and it's a lot different then online play...

when don't see a lot of the Full Tilt Specials (you know, when the worst hands beats the best hand)

and so far I am doing better at the Live Cash games then online play...

I play weekly "real world" tournaments with friends and also play online.
I try to play the same way online and in the real world.
The main difference I find is that it is much easier and more common to bluff online. You only need to press a button. That's it.
Besides that, the rest depends mostly on the level of the players you're playing.
