Live tournament advice

Im entering a live tourney in m local casino early next week and im looking for a little advice. Juts some basic info: The buy ins £10 which is about 20$ (small buy in but im a student so its what i can afford!). The fields about 100 people big, and im thinking nearly all amateurs. Starting count is 2000 chips, not sure about blinds or how long they last but im pretty sure its a quite steady tourney, nothing fast and slow moving blinds.

Anyway my question is to do with add ons and rebuys. They tourney offers one rebuy and one addon within the first hour. Is it worth getting the addon for the extra chips? Any other tips for live tourneys are greatly appreciated.

I always get an addon. I've found most of the other people do as well.

I always play tight at the beginning f a re-buy tournament. A lot of people play loose because they have the added security of being able to buy back in if they lose all their chips.

Just keep an eye on the blinds because they can soon catch up with you!

I would take the add-ons and re-buys... otherwise youre likely to be outchipped and getting called by others with any two cards.
Secondly, watch the others play when the add-on time approaches, players get aggressive and it's a good chance to pick up some chips from players who are thinking "well if i go broke on this hand, Ill just re-buy."

I've got absolutely no idea about the structure of this specific tournament, of course, but I'd be surprised if you got a slow blind structure for a buyin that low.

Reason is, as soon as you've bought in and made your rebuy / add on, the casino stops making money from you - so these kind of tournaments usually have pretty fast structures so they can get the tournament over and done with and, hopefully, have you all move back to the cash tables as quickly as possible.

Another thing you'll sometimes see is a $10 buyin, but rebuys and add-ons at a higher price ($30 rebuys and add-ons, for example).

I'm not necessarily saying this tournament will be structured like that, but it's something to maybe be aware of or check out before you go.

Aside from that, it's almost always a good idea to take the rebuy and the add-on.

Definitely add-ons and rebuys are important in this structure.

Also, be mentally prepared... be prepared for what?? EVERYTHING- LOL! You obviously can't know everything, but not being surprised by "what might happen" (tournament or cash game), will definitely improve your chances.

In other words, do some research. I don't know your exact situation, obviously, but ask others who've been in your upcoming situation... and find out what you can expect emotionally. It's important to know how, what, why to bet what you do... but to know what's in front of you, emotionally, will give you a huge edge on the field.

With experience, you'll get to know how you react in certain situations...which many players totally ignore. Don't be that player! Know what you're feeling, why you're feeling, how to react, and how not to react.
