Scenario: Tournament;Location: Card room
At my home poker room if someone bets $500 and it's your turn now, you put out two $1000 chips without saying anything intending on it being a raise it will be a forced call and you get back $1500 chips.
I am trying to learn more about how this works around the globe.
Watching live cards on youtube, tv or sitting at the table most people won't say out loud raise, and just put their raise with the previous bet. I have seen dealers let this slide more then not or they ask the player is that a raise.

Where you play how does this work in No Limit?

The places I've played, in that situation, that's considered an automatic raise. Putting out any amount of chips more than the previous bet, as long as it's the minimum, is considered a raise.

A lot of places don't want you saying "raise" verbally because it sometimes induces a physical reaction of the player(s) in the hand.

I'm not sure why your situation @ your cardroom isn't considered a raise though.

Not if it's a single chip.

Example: If someone bets 1k, and the player next to act throws out a single 10k chip(without announcing anything)... That's considered a call, not a raise.

I know this, man. Please read more carefully.

I answered his question/situation that was referring to "two $1000 chips".

And yes... I read his post "carefully" enough the first time.

Geeez after this post, I'm done responding here.

I said...

Read bold above. His situation was "two $1000 chips".

To OP - sorry for this. I hope your confusion gets settled. I also hope the other guy that responded to you will eventually answer your question & not worry about what I'm writing.

Its a raise in most cases, it depends on how the chips were put out.(Unless its ruled as string bet and he was forced to just call)

Some card rooms also have "local rules", which you should learn and be aware of, if the room insists on a verbal raise, then just do it, every, single, time.

Local card room here it's consider a raise and some that I played in out of town are required to verbally say raise. One chip down means a call and 2 means a raise in most places i played but every place is different, it's up to you to find out the rules before sitting at the tables.

Mostly been said above - a single oversize chip would rightly be considered just a call if the player hasn't said anything. But more than one chip should constitute a raise (unless, as Tenbob suggested, they were put out one at a time, in which case it should be ruled a string bet, only the first chip counts, and that chip ends up being a call).

Different card rooms have different rules though, so if the rule in your card room is that you have to verbalise every raise then that's what you have to do.

A lot of places don't want you saying "raise" verbally because it sometimes induces a physical reaction of the player(s) in the hand.

FWIW I've never heard of a card room doing this, and it'd be an awful rule that would create more problems than it would solve...
