We are playing a dealers choice and some of the players feel that it is desirable to create their own new games.

As time marchs on you lose players and with these crazy games its hard to recruit new players.

Any good ideas as to how to get these players to contain and restrain their enthusiasm for their demon spawn so that we can have full tables?

Maybe stick to just playing the common games Hold em, Omaha, Stud, Razz, H.O.R.S.E, etc.... But you should stick to mainly Hold em and Omaha or have the majority vote win the type of game they would like to play, best of luck getting full tables. :)

Don't play in those kind of games? Seriously, the people who are leaving have the right idea.

Then I'm not sure what the complaining is for. Sounds like you have a bunch of guys hanging out "playing cards", not playing competitive poker.

90% of the time, I just want to play NLHE to win. Hanging out with the guys is fun, but if I'm in a playing NLHE to win mindset, I am really not interested in some goofy crap like Indian poker. If I'm not in tune with the game that's being played for fun, I don't go because it's not fun for me, and they don't want me either nitting it up or shoving into them. They just want to have fun.

So, for this game, I'd say go to have fun or don't go.

You may want to consider finding a private B&M poker room in your area. It may seem difficult to find however I started to discover multiple rooms within 15 - 20 minute drives within my vicinity. Try speaking to people in Barnes & Noble as they browse the Game section ( where the poker books are ). Eventually someone will crack.

The other live games that I enjoy are not a problem s the structure is totally rational.

The problem is that when you lose players along with every day demands you run short of players.

IF you have can use up to 8-10 players at a table, I think you need a pool of at least 9 regulars.

If you add in the factor that some players will not show if there are less than 7 players; I feel you are in hot water when yoiur regular pool drops from a high of 10 down to 7.

Of course when you have a new player who does not want to play the made up games the newbie is criticized for his lack of adventure.

The facts are that some of the regulars who have oversized egos have designed these new games to offset the edge that the more skilled players possess in the more commonly played games.
