It might be better to use the search feature and look for all the many similar posts, questions and replies ... rather than asking others to do the work for you and post links ... ;)

That's what searching a site with thousands of topics and details is all about. ... :)

  • Get a poker table/ table top if you don't already have one
  • Have the current chip leader pick the music.
  • Shots for sucking out on someone.
  • Convert the game to strip poker if the fit girl at the table is losing every hand
  • Create a pizza rake
  • Get a set of Copag cards
  • Get a set of quality clay chips
  • Vary your games between SNGs, Ring games, HU shootouts

I host home games of 8 to 20 players almost weekly. A few tips I can give would be.

An actual poker table is nice but if you dont have the funds or room get a table topper or at least some poker felt to put down over your table.

Make sure everyone knows the tourney structure/buy in before they get to your house. If you are playing cash announce the blind levels when inviting buds over.

When playing tourneys use 2 decks of cards at each table to ensure speedy play. The person in front of the dealer(small blind) should always have the 2nd deck of cards so they can shuffle them and have them ready to go.

Have planned breaks in the tourney blinds schedule and decide the payouts after collecting the money and before the tourney starts even if its just the percentages. I usually pay 3 spots and give 3rd place their buyin back and give 60/40 with whatever money is left to the top 2.

Make sure only 1 or 2 trustworthy folks have their hands in the money.

Its nice to have a nice set of chips(values on the chips is also nice) and nice plastic cards.

Make sure you have a timer set up before starting, don't just use someones cell phone or watch the clock for the blinds.

Make sure you know the rules of the game. Do not let folks argue or constantly chat and hold up the game. (We usually seperate the women to help with this.--sorry if the sounds bad but its true)

Serving snacks that are poker friendly. I..E...Buffalo wings are not usually a good thing to serve. Anything that makes messy fingers usually isnt a good idea.

If you want to start at 8 tell folks 730. If folks are going to be late just set up their chips and starting blinding them until they get there.

If you have new faces at the table introduce them to everyone before starting.

Try to decide on what time you will end the play a few hours before you stop.

Make sure all $$$ stays on the table, if one person borrows money from another it shouldnt be from chips/cash already in play.

The more organized your game, the easier it will be to have repeat customers. If someone turns out to be an a-hole just dont invite them to the next game. One dumbass can ruin everyone's night.

another idea would be if you play tourneys alot, you could run a series for a designated period of time (6 months, 1 year, etc.) playing a specific set number of matches and keep a leader board. There are sites out there that you can sign up for free that do this, you just plug in the info after every tourney. There are also simple point scoring systems that help to track standings, for example based on what place you get knocked out.

Aside from the usual tourney payouts, you could have a side till that builds over the course of the series for a grand prize the 1st place finisher could win, as well as an inexpensive replica world series of poker type bracelet that I've seen online at sites before.

check this site out, it will give you great ideas: http://www.homepokertourney.com/

and if you have access to a laptop, you might check this site out:

I have been checking http://www.homepokertourney.com/ and like you said it has everything. Chips, Timer, Rules and anything else you can ask for. This is a site that you have to bookmark for future review in my opinion. BobTheBiller thanks for the site info

+1

Having a copy of Robert's Rules of Poker on hand as the final authority to any rules dispute is also helpful.

I do it covertly. If I have 2 tables of lets say 8 each I take 8 red cards and 8 blue cards mix them up and put them color down on the table. I have everyone pick a face up card then turn it over to show me the color which designates the table they sit at. Luckily the girls (at least the ones I usually play with) dont pay enough attention to know which table is which so I just tell them to go to whichever table the other girl is not at.
I always choose last so if one table is down a person I just go to that table.

I do have to say there are some ladies who show up to play and not gossip and annoy everyone and they are treated like any other player.

I play in jj48fan's game and tbh we have similar problems with a few of the guys in the game as well. People who don't "play ready poker", to steal a phrase from golf, are the most annoying thing to me about home games. Doing whatever it takes to keep the gabbers separated and ready to act will definitely improve your game.

The ones I ask dunt need anuva girl to talk to, talking to open air will do.
Or filling every silence with "this is shit" and yet saying they really enjoyed it after and insisting they come again and again and again:(

Keep them in the kitchen I say!:D

Get good cards. Copag or KEM.
Get nice chips. Nevada Jacks or Paulson's (They don't have to be this good)
Get a good felt to play on.
Dealer button with timer.
Cut cards

That's all you need.

I get all my stuff from www.bluffboutique.com. very reasonable prices and they will give a 5% discount with the code SAVE5%OFF

You can also mess with the structure a bit. Like dealers choice or 2's wild or add a joker in the deck. My personal favourite in cash games is the 72 rule where if a player wins wit 72 all player have to give them a big blind

This is probably the best site in the world regarding home tounuments

http://www.homepokertourney.com/

Ditto - Even Saves you the cost of paying for a timer if your friend is taking to long.
-------
On a side note:

I have mixed feelings about home games. In terms of playing against friends. I dislike having a long term advantage on my friends in terms of their skill level, knowing what they play, their typical income, their betting behavior, likelihood of them calling with bottom pair etc. Although it has helped me to FINALLY pick up reads but ONLY on my friends that try to play serious.

Even if I go to the casino with a friend I will do my best to sit at a different table to avoid the heads up confrontation with a friend. Nothing makes you feel worse than having to fold/call the best hand because your friend is playing with his last $200 until Friday and it's Saturday Night. Of course you can take it and give it back later but you can't ship the chips back across the table to a busted out player.

His fault for gambling his last $200.
Advise him against it but if they refuse to listen you may as well be the one to take it.

Cards are completely up to you. IMO Copag and Kem are the worst feeling brands of the higher quality cards you can buy. They are just to thin an flimsey but it just an opinion.

Make sure you buy from a site that will give you individual replacement cards because all plastic cards will crack or break depending on use.
www.tridentcards.com has treated me very well and www.discountcasinogear.com has amazing prices and has very good customer service on your felt, table toppers, chips and they do have some cards.

Copag and kem cards come with a warranty card. Most of the top manufactures come with a warranty. I have a set of copags that I have had for about 6 years now. Te ink is a bit faded but not one of the cards are marked or damaged. 100% the best cards IMO

I have always liked KEM. What cards do you think are better? I might give them a try.
