OK, so I am just curious. I see a lot of people listening to music with their headphones on at the table allllll the time. I was wondering how people feel about this? Are you able too? Do you think its better for your game play? Im curious to know.

Personally, I find it almost impossible to listen to music while playing a serious game. Especially cash games when there is a **** ton of money on the table.
For me, i find it to be sensory deprivation. I need all my senses working when I am playing. I have to be able to analyze the table. Analyze the way a certain player acts when hes strong or weak. Things he says, etc. With headphones on, you miss out all all kinds of cues. I think all your doing when using music while playing is screwing yourself.

How do you feel?

I have the same feeling about listening music while playing serious games, I am not concentrated at the level I need to be. Also I observed that my best results I got while not listening music. In my opinion, music itself is created to change your real mood, a source of positive or negative emotions when you are not ok with your actual mood.

I agree with you a little, I listen to music but calm chill music to relax and help me think. I don't listen to any with words to anything to aggressive because then I can not think straight. But I guess it really depends on the person and what they are able to handle and still be able to think and make the right calls. I used to in the pass listen to hard music but like you said, it really did kill me game because I was more into the music then what was going on at the tables.

honestly..i just feel like when your in a serious game..you have to feel the vibe of the table. the body language, the coughs, the sniffles...all types of verbal and non verbal cues..myself at least, i need to feel the flow of the table...and when your feeling the flow of the music...its next to impossible to do this. thats my personal opinion, but i guess everyone is different. I just feel that, if your listening to music while playing...chances are that your playing the cards, not the man...just playing the luck part of the game. simple as that.

I can argue!!! Thanks to different music, I can during the game, I change my strategy!
* And if, to you music, interferes with focus, try to listen to other music!

I totally agree with the OP here. Music is a total distraction to me. I tried it once or twice because I was hoping it would allow me to concentrate better. I tend to be distracted by all the social chatter and the hustle and bustle of a live card house. I was hoping the music would help distract me from the distractions.

I found that for me the music distracted me from the distractions too well and i was loosing to much information from the game by listening to music. I have to really work hard to keep my mind focused on my game and what is going on around me at the table, but I can do it. I need all my senses to play my best game.

Easy listening music is definitely the go to for me. Keeps me even keeled, if listen to fast paced music, rap, or metal I spew like a drunken monkey. I highly recommend reggae, classical, trance, and jazz

When playing poker, the most important thing is to feel comfortable! One player is suitable for listening to music others do not! Do only as you like best! On this depends the quality of the game. When I have a good mood I listen to classical music. And sometimes just the headphones close unnecessary sounds, I need silence!

I listen to music. I only play online as I can't play in casinos yet. It helps me keep an upbeat attitude. I go into hyper-focus mode most of the time so I honestly don't even hear it :)

I share your opinion, the music seems to me more a shield before the insecurity of some type of intimidation.

I listen to music.
But when there is an important hand, I usually stop the music for a little while.

When playing online i have Music in the background since all table talk comes in form of text but when playing live i wan't to be able to take in my surroundings since even the way people breath in certain situations can tell you a lot

It does not bother me if I see other players live with headsets on. I may be able to do so but do not.

It's hard to believe, but listening to music, especially in languages you do not know, helps a lot to relax and put an end to whatever anxiety you have during the game. Try it and listen to music in another language at low volume. You will see that it is very good and comforting.
