Why do I hate Limit and Pot Limit so much. I love the way Holdem is and all the action and such, but limit just gets to me....
I mean i can't stand how many people get in the hand and call....there is so much more suckouts and its so easy to get rivered......i can't stand it for some reason......the only reason im posting this is because many pros play different games and they say that it helps to play diiferent games to get better at Holdem.

What do I have to do to be more patient with Limit, or should I just not play since it gets to me so bad. I think that a good bluff is essential to winning large tournaments and pots but you can't do that to much if at all in limit....

Limit is a different animal than no limit. I play it a lot because i have a very "limited" bankroll and i can control my losses better while still collecting a tidy sum if i win. I know a lot of guys can't stand the pace of the game and want to just have the opportunity to smash the opponent in to oblivion but not me i want to make a few bucks and that's it.
As you move up in limit games there are fewer suckouts. Nobody wants to put 8 or 16 dollars in a pot looking for a draw. At least i don't.

Most pro / living on income players play STRICTLY Limit poker. No Limit for them is just to risky and not worth their money unless it is an MTT.

Limit is all about equity and ranges; how likely is your hand to win a showdown, how much of his range is the other guy likely to fold. Bet, check, raise or fold accordingly. Pure bluffs are rare, but blind steals are a big lovefest of crap hands going at each other. It's fun.

Here's a bluff from today:

Preflop: Hero is Button with J

.
1 fold, Hero raises, 2 folds.

Final Pot: 1.25 BB

Here's a hand where I raised for value and fold equity before the flop, and made my opponent - presumably - fold at least 6 outs after the flop. Might even have folded a better hand.

Preflop: Hero is BB with

2 folds, CO calls, 2 folds, Hero raises, CO calls.

Flop: (4.50 SB)

(2 players)
Hero bets, CO folds.

Final Pot: 2.25 BB

In the second hand, it doesn't matter that I probably had the best hand. It matters that my opponent folded his hand, regardless of what hand that was.

Limit hold'em is a bit more subtle in some of its nuances than it first seems (first impression: "bet-and-everyone-calls"). But it's fun.

It's a different game, with different emphasis on different skills. You have to REALLY REALLY understand concepts like pot equity when you play limit. SSHE was a good read for explaining the important concepts.

Limit is more math; no limit is more people. I am a math person. I do well at limit ring and lose at no limit ring. I seem to be doing OK at NL tournaments lately, though. (2nd, 4th, 2nd in the last three I played.) My biggest MTT win ever was a limit tournament.

I played some limit today after going on a bad run at no limit. I won $10 (50BB) at the 10c20c tables. Like some of the others said, its a different game. I recommend that everyone plays it though, because the players at the micro stakes are SOOOO bad.
