For limit poker, I understand I should have a BR of 200-500 BB's (big bets), but how many BB's should I sit with at a table?

You should have enough in your stack to cap every street. So for limit hold'em, you need at least 12 big bets in your stack at all times. For stud, you need like 17ish. If you ever go all in playing a limit cash game, you've seriously screwed up.

I just sit down with 50 big bets when I play stud. Keeps me from having to reload very often.

This pretty much. Just sit with like 30 big bets or more so you don't have to worry about reloading every other hand.

The 30-50 previously mentioned is a good number. What you also asked was how it breaks down in total BR.

That's when you need to establish a BR management guide that YOU can live with. In limit, I prefer it not be more than 5% of my BR. Some would say 10% is OK for 'limit' play. If 50 BB is 5%, then I need a BR of 1,000 BB, 30 would be 600BB. 5% is very conservative, imo, but if you play well at all, you will never be wondering if your credit card will take another deposit hit.
