Do you win more money playing cash games or tournaments online ???

Over years of playing online I had some great days playing cash games, but overall lost my shirt and pants.

Struck gold a couple of times playing tournaments and now only play tourneys. I can be down a thousand or two and go months before a hit, but when I finally do hit, I usually get it back and some. Regardless of the effort and time between strikes, tourneys at this point are working for me. Most of the times getting to the final table or close is good enough to cover expenses.

I never visit cash tables anymore online.

I also get into sng's between large tourneys, not only for cash sng's but satellites, and keep excellent money records. If you win one out of four or hit board a couple of times the cost is usually minimal. If I get into a bad run I usually start buying into bigger buy-in sng's and eventually get even or go up a few dollars. I then go back to cheaper buy-ins. I've had 4 and 5 wins in a row, then go 16 games without hitting the board. Keeps ya busy between good tourneys, and has not hurt my bankroll.

As far as satellites go, I always get into big tourneys for cheaper. Only a couple of times it would of been cheaper to buy into a bigger tourney direct.

I make money online from SNGs mainly.

Live, all I play are cash tables.

Yeah sng's are easier to make a profit online than ring games online.

If I had Logged it all from the beginning I'd have to say it was pretty darn even. Lately though it seems that at the RING games I am posting more of a profit. Although right Now I am playing A-Lot more of the ring games. So that might be a factor.

Cash I have probably lost a bit but haven't played enough (probably <10,000 hands total) to get the hang of it.

SnGs have turned a nice profit over a few thousand of the things.

And MTTs have been probably the most profitable.

I definately make the most money of SnGs, they are pretty much all I play though. Ive had bad experiences with ring games in the past, but that was when I was much more inexperienced and playing above my bankroll. I occassionally play a shorthanded 25max (.10/.25c) ring game if I want some action and to play more aggressively. I do ok in them, probably have a positve profit, but I dont really keep track. I use the shorthanded ring game to let my aggressive side come out and if I get up by 8-10 dollars I will usually just cash out even if Ive only been there for 5 minutes.

Tourneys/SNGs all the way. I get bored fast on cash game tables as the blind levels don't increase. Boredom = bad for my bankrolll. =P

poll

I usually only play cash tables if I need a few extra quick bucks for the buy-in to enter a good SNG or tourney if I find myself a bit short at the time.

My poker journal is going on it's 5th year and it says if I stick to tourneys I would make a yearly profit. Over the last 4 years i've lost what i've won in tournaments in ring games plus some.

This year I've been concentrating on tournaments and playing ring games much, much less. So far this year 7 final tables, cashed 61 with 750.00 invested winning 2600.00 total.

Have lost some of that back to ring games, not much but enough to remind me... DON'T DO THAT! :( LOL I also use my winnings to try higher limit tournaments and don't count that against my original buy-in. (750 so far).

So far this year I haven't withdrawn anything, when I withdraw then I count it against my original investment, I'm hoping to make this a positive year in my journal. If I stick to tournaments and avoid ring games I should be able to accomplish that.

When I get the "wanna play bug" I'll play SnG's if I don't have time to MTT.

I believe I can compete well in the ring games but not without a proper bankroll and attitude adjustment/management scheme. The stress levels are so different and reading opponents much harder in the cash games, you just HAVE to have the proper bankroll to enable you to play right.

So yeah cash games = NO! Tournaments = YES!

I have won more playing tourneys, but based on a per hour rate have done better playing ring games. Notwithstanding, I play mostly tourneys online, becuase of the obvious collusion in many ring games.

Money

I agree with you.
I too play almost sit and goes and multitourney.
Cash game on line i lost always.
It seems some people only raises with AA KK QQ and all time wait to have these hands to beat you.
I dont have the patience to wait one hour to play one hand, and maybe lose or win poor money.
I play cash game only if i must clear some bonus, and prefer the limit table, as the bad beat are always near the corner.
And then i think tourneys are more "democratics", cause in cash game who has more money can bluff more and beat you.

I have made way more money playing tournaments then cash games. Like Rovinato said I just don't have the patients to sit and grind it out.
