the situation is states rights. each state pretty much has the right to prohibit anything. it's in the constitution. there will always be states where internet poker is legal. move to one of them.

I think he means the fact that some poker rooms allow US players, while others don't allow them (from any states.) Something I've wondered myself.

But I don't think it's a matter of certain sites being "legal" or not. It's the poker rooms' decision.

Some poker sites are publicly held companies in Europe. That is why they don't allow US players. pokerstars and Full Tilt are privately held companies.

^^this.

It`s one of the great ironies of UIGEA, a measure intended to "protect" Americans from the risks of internet gambling, that the poker sites which are licensed and regulated in the UK or other EU countries abide by the law and will now not accept American players.

If an American wishes to continue playing, his only option is an unregulated site. How does that reduce risk ?

Exactly right, these laws protect no one as anyone who really wants to play still does, but in fact put many of the constituents who elect these public officials in greater danger of being ripped off. I just don't get their mindset on this one.
