Legal and state run internet poker in NJ

The good news......New Jersey Assembly just passed an internet gambling law.

The bad news.....New Jersey residents will have to play poker in the state's poker room and players will be prohibited from playing in their favorite rooms.

At least that is the way it has been explained to me. Has anyone heard anything different?

I have been playiing at bodog for over 4 years, Doyles room for more than 2 years and I just started at Felt Stars because of their signup bonus and affiliation with Rounders Radio. I like the smaller sites and avoid the big boys like the plague(except for an occassional miniFTOPS).

I am a firm believer in Freedom of Choice and it seems to me that this move by New Jersey's Governor Christie, like many of his other actions, borders on being unAmerican.

Actually this is how the law partially reads:

Internet wagering" means the placing of wagers with a casino licensee at a casino located in Atlantic City using a computer network of both federal and non-federal interoperable packet switched data networks through which the casino licensee may offer authorized games to residents of this State who have established a wagering account with the casino licensee.

Which basically means the sites we all know and love are not included and you must be a resident of NJ to play.

Unamerican-hmmmm, not the America we like to think we have, but the America we do have where all that matters is who lines who's pockets.

Well it could be worse and be like Washington state where it's a felony to play and all of the sites have banned Washington players.

It will be interesting to see if the NJ law gets through and if it does, how things go.

Who knows, maybe NJ Intranet poker run by Harrah's (now Caesars Entertainment) might be as good or better than Bodog, Doyle's Room, and the big 2.

I sincerely doubt that anything that Governor Christie endorses will ever be good for us NewJerseyites. It would be something though if it actually turns out to be better for the bettor. The rake will probably be comparable to the odds on the NJ Lottery.
