hey everyone, it was good being a member of this forum. I love to play poker, but I just can't control myself. I'm a gambling addict. I just can't help myself. It's a cycle. I make about 2 grand over a 2-3 week period, and I lose it all in 10 mins. Over and over again. I feel like such a piece of s--t right now, I can't even afford to lose the money but i did it anyway. I don't know why I can't control myself, I just can't. If you only knew how I felt inside right now.. worthless. online poker is a drug, truthfully. It's a addiction, and i am addicted. I don't know why I cant control myself, I KNOW I shouldn't even think about sitting at 30/60, but I do anyway, and what happens when I lose a few pots? LETS JUST bluff EVERY POT! SURE THAT WILL WORK RIGHT? I BET I CAN GET EVERYTHING I LOST BACK IN 1 HAND RIGHT? OHH --- HE CALLED WITH ACE HIGH. Online poker needs to be banned. Im serious. Theres people like me every day losing their life savings because of this. Think about it, a place where you can gamble any time, any day, for any stakes, right from the comfort of your own home, and it all happens 10 times as fast as it does in a casino. It is just as bad if not WORSE than any drug. I'm so disgusted with myself as a person, really, I wouldn't be surprised if there was kids that killed themselves because of this. I personally read an article about a kid who robbed a bank because of this. I just look back and wonder how I became like this. I even owe financial institutions money because of online poker. LOL. I'm sure theres some people who CAN control themselves, and of course there is the sharks who pad their wallets with money from people like me, who will fight for online poker to the end. People's lives are being ruined by online poker, not just mine. Whatever, i dont know, its a free country, if people wanna gamble online I guess its their choice, but theres thousands of peoples who are ******* their lives up and cant help themselves every day, who's gonna stick up for them?

ok Dingo; I'm piss drunk here, and hope nothing comes out wrong because I can tell you're in a really, really stressed out situation. My serious suggestion is to seek help with gambling; poker is supposed to be fun, and obviously you sound like you're having more than a hard time with it. Some people have very addictive personalities (i'm not giving details, but I know all about it growing up with bad situations with immediate family members in the past :(), and maybe you're just not meant for poker . We love having you here, and it's disappointing seeing you leave permanently. Backing away from poker is probably a good idea considering the situation you describe that you're in, but my honest suggestion is to seek gambling addiction help if it's affecting you this much.

I hope everything turns out well; keep us updated and try to get all this shit resolved; it's not healthy to be in this kind of state of mind.
Best wishes

Dingo, I'm sorry for what you are going through, really. My first experience with online poker I had so much hope, but when I started winning I decided I had to win FASTER. I played way beyond my bankroll and lost it. I didn't lose much... my experience was surely only a tiny fraction of the stress you must be feeling, but it still made me feel like total shit, and it gave me a very small glimpse of what gambling, or any addiction really, can do to you if you don't control yourself.

I know a lot of what you're saying is out of stress and of course from your personal experience. But like Chuck said... gambling can be fun. Some people have very addictive personalities. Combine that with the fact that money is one of the more powerful and important things in society, and gambling can ruin lives. But it certainly doesn't have to. Obesity can ruin lives, but that doesn't mean chocolate should be banned. If you continue to feel that badly about it, I think you should seek help. A friend of mine is a recovering alcoholic, and if he can stay sober, I'm convinced anyone can do anything. You can learn better self-control, just like my friend and many other people have.

I've enjoyed watching you play in tournaments, Dingo, as well as reading your posts on the forums. Whatever you choose to do, I hope everything works out for the best. Best wishes.

I'm sorry to hear you'll be leaving us, but even though you're feeling horrible about yourself now, the up side is that you recognize you have a problem. Just try to remember that no one is perfect and everyone makes mistakes. Take this as a step in the right direction in learning from it.

I think you would be doing the right thing for yourself to give poker up completely (especially if the problem is as extreme as you say), but as for it being banned online, I think combuboom is 100% correct. There are so many potentially addictive things in life, it's up to the individual to (hopefully) recognize when they have the problem (which you have done), and seek help accordingly.

I think for you, the best thing you can do is contact Gamblers Anonymous. It would be a great way to get support, and be able to sound off with other people who have the same problem. Sometimes it helps to hear other's stories and experiences to help yourself on the path to recovery. I wish you all the best and hope that you won't be too hard on yourself. Like I said, just being able to admit you have a problem is a GIANT step in the right direction.

Cheers, Dingo.

1) Poker is not "gambling" and anyone who thinks it is really DOES have a problem.

2) This forum has a wider readership than most folks realize. It can even be added to the "My Yahoo" RSS feed. Let's hope this thread isn't used in US Congress to fan the flames of their attempt to ban online poker. Yes, unlikely. But you never know.

3) Call me skeptical, but this looks like either a drunken rant that he'll take back soon or a complete hoax. Think about it, folks.

Gambling - "To take a risk in the hope of gaining an advantage or a benefit."

?? Do you know the other player's cards when you play? OR do you know you're always going to make money? I sure don't...and I don't think anyone can make that claim..

I honestly think you might have a problem yourself, by making that statement. What that problem is...I'm of course unsure of...but you're surely in denial.

Dingo: I applaud you for your honesty and courage. It is not easy to face up to the things that are not going right in our life.

I am a professional counselor and have worked with many people facing issues similar to yours. If you are to the stage where you are really willing to accept assistance, by all means do it now. You'll be surprised at how you can get your life back if you really want it.

Best wishes for you.

It's commendable that you've realized that you shouldn't play.

I think self control is a key in everything you do in life. Should drugs be illegal? Poker? Candy? You can get addicted to anything...and if the government needs to put strict regulation on everything everyone can and cannot do because of various reasons, then that's where you and I differ. I hope you enjoyed your stay here at the CC forums. Bye.

LMAO! Wsorbust, you really need to quit being such a psycho. It's not doing you much good. Are you drunk, too?

http://www.pokertips.org/news/articles/262.php

http://www.poker.net/headlines/news/archive/chanceorscience.htm

I guess these links all contain "denial", also. There's tons more but I'm done babysitting.

It is widely agreed that poker skill outweighs luck and that poker is not 100% of either luck or skill. But it is also widely held that a game in which one can win without the best hand is more closely related to pool or darts than roulette or craps. Even baseball players get lucky when the ball gets hit right at them so they can catch it more easily.

"Widely" means not just me, Wsorbust. So go be psychotic to the authors of all these articles & more. Also, don't bother flaming and making yourself look even worse because I'm done with this subject and you.

Psycho? LMAO! LMAO! That is a user based encyclopedia....and you listed ALL poker related sites with articles trying to argue the point that it is a skill. What does that tell you? Nothing...Let's not be as biased when trying to back our points...not to mention insulting someone by repeatedly calling them a psycho.

Gambling - "To take a risk in the hope of gaining an advantage or a benefit."

Risk- "A factor, thing, element, or course involving uncertain danger."

I'm looking at the link right now. . .It's not there. Not to mention I edited my original post with the quote in it before you made your little mspaint project there.

The fact that I've edited my previous post and that online encyclopedia proves the fact that you backing yourself with the information provided by Wikepedia was futile.

I'm a sex addict and can't stop. Everybody stop having sex right now! It should be banned! ;)

Sorry, Dingo, about the crummy situation you're in, but it's a gigantic step forward to admit you have a problem, and I agree with the earlier suggestion of seeking help through Gamblers Anonymous. It's a very real issue and you're not alone in facing it. If it's not something you can easily control, you're doing the right thing by quitting. Best of luck to you with making good decisions in the future.

[edited my own insults. sorry.]

You went into Wikipedia and erased it. Pretty childish. Do you feel better now?

However, I preserved your previously-posted drivel so you can remember to get help for whatever you have. Please do.

EDIT: Keep flaming, dude. You seriously need help. [edited more of my insults]

No, no . It wasn't childish. The fact that I, or anyone for that matter, can edit your source proves the reason that backing yourself with the information provided by Wikepedia was futile. If you think I originally insulted you. That is not what I intended. I'm sorry if you took offense to it and hope you can realize that insulting me over, and over about it, isn't justifiable in any right. I stated my opinion: I think that poker is gambling, and you don't, let's leave it at that and end this.[SIZE=-1]http://www.ncpgambling.org/

Mr. Sticker, poker is gambling. Gambling is "betting on an uncertain outcome". Do you know what certain means? Certain means 100%. When is the last time you were 100% to win a hand pre-flop? How often are you 100% to win after the flop? Almost never. Of course poker requires skill, but it is still gambling.

Yep. You are right. The "denial" thing is what got me going. I guess I tilt too easily.

I guess we'll agree to disagree. Sorry, dude.

Jesus, here's a thread with a guy essentially opening his heart to the community and making what must be a difficult post and you guys are being so ridiculously petty and childish it's unbelievable.

It's debatable whether poker is gambling. By all means debate it sensibly, but this is not the place to do so.

By all means make a separate topic if you wish, but I trust that this will be the last we hear of the issue in this topic.

He might have opened his heart, but he insulted poker and this community with 3/4 of his final post. I hope he will one day come back and we can have sane fun again at the tables....maybe at a free roll or something.

Well I'm really sorry to see you leave Dingo, but I applaud you for your own self examination and how honest you are being to yourself. I really hope that you are able to help yourself become the person you want to become or were. To have a healthy mind then body are the most important things and if poker is hurting either, than you must help yourself. GL luck in the future Dingo and good fortune.

I commend you on realizing that there is a problem with gambling, but is it really an addiction or just frustration? I can only speak for myself but I to feel lousy when I get hammered at the tables, but when I look back at HH's I realize it was my own stupidity (not sayin you stupid though) that took me out and that just kills me even more, also when I look back at those times I lacked good BR management, played above my limits and means and just played stupid poker, so maybe some time away would be good for you? and if you really need the help GO and get it, as JQ has given you the link check it out, they have a I think 20 questions thing to answer to find out if you really are addicted, but I think it's RIGGED cause everyone I know that tried it was addicted;) , anyway good luck in all you do and hope to be seeing you around the forum.
